Nelson Semedo

Don't like labelling players as 'legends in making' or 'destined to succeed', but he definitely got the talent and right attitude. The rest is up to him.

Now it's on him to adapt well and make the right decisions and keep working hard to succeed.

I think this guy has a good head on his shoulders. He is confident yet humble at the same time and he seems hard working

Also looks to have a great body, athletic and everything. I am confident he will be a great signing. Makes me excited about the RW again now, it's almost as if we played without it last seaosn. Need to get Messi back in the right I feel. Now he has a new partner in crime :D

About people posting "if he'll play 100 or 150 matches, that means that he will be a success".

Just some numbers, for comparison:
Fabregas, 151 matches in 3 seasons
Alexis, 141 matches in 3 seasons
Mathieu, already 91 matches for Barca
Arda, 55 matches
Gomes, 47 matches
Denis the ghost, 36 matches

I am not saying whether he will be good or bad.
But, at first reports said that we paid him 30M, which is cheap.
And now it seems, if will be a starting RB for even only 2-3 seasons, he will easily come to 100-150 matches in all competitions, which means that we will pay him 40-45M in the end.

30M for a RB who played one good season is okish.
45M for the same player is a lot.

On the other hand, if 45M for Semedo is considered cheap, then Arsenal probably asked 60-70M with variables for Bellerin.

I wonder who will replace Semedo at Benfica, they currently have.

Pedro Pereira 19-Originally from their youth system but was sold to Sampdoria and came back in January, at the moment they are currently shitting on him on the Benfica forum for his terrible performance in the Pre-season friendly loss today vs Swiss Side young boys.

André Almeida 26-Benfica's version of Sergi Roberto, he's defensively sound but doesn't provide anywhere near the attacking strengths of Semedo.

They have some other talented RB's in their B team but going by what some Benfica fans say they believe none of them can bring what Semedo could on the attacking front. it reminds me when we lost Alves and replaced him with Roberto.

45m is a lot of money for a fb, I wonder how much we paid for Gomes all in?.

He is here already so let's hope for the best.

Yeah, people assume that incentives simply means that the player is a success and we havent paid any of the incentives for all our flops but do we know that none of the incentives for our flops were similar to this? Could be part of the reason why we're having a small transfer budget.

Anyway, I think we're realistically looking at 30.5m+10m max. He has to start for the games to be counted essentially. No sub appearance like flops tend to get a lot of will count towards the incentives.

Gomes clauses was based on winning Liga, reaching CL QF, SF,or win CL. we only paid half a million of those clauses last season for reaching QF out of possible 5M

Well Gomes already played 30+ games. Semedo as only real RB will surely play more.

We will pay 5M for sure. But we have Vidal and Roberto at RB. Roberto was solid both at the end and start of last season so I expect him to be used at that position when needed. He won't be a starter if he isn't good.
If he is good we will pay 15M,making him 45M player. that isn't a bargain but worth it. If he isn't it won't be more than 5M. but it will mean that the 30M is flushed in toilet for average player.
Yeah, decent deal but not a bargain. But Benfica was always tough to negotiate with

I don't know why people are adding 30 million to 5m which is from a year later, 5m from 2 years later and another 5m from 3 years later. They are not figures in the same time and just cannot be added like that!

Imagine fullbacks that are transferred ending up doing well, the prices are gonna be skyrocketed!! Just imagine Kyle Walker who is transferred for 60m this summer doing well, the prices like 40m are gonna be norm next season. Considering the time value of money and the inflation, etc even if we had to pay all the 15m incentives (which I hope we are forced to end up paying), the incentives converted to current times and summed, it would not be valued at more than half of it! Let us say it is 9m (60% of 15m), the price would add up to 39m in current times and mind you that it sums up to 39 IF the player ends up as a huge success!!

So I guess it's not a bad deal considering our desperate need for a RB and how well documented it has been!!

As much as I like this guy, I cannot ignore the fact that he is Portuguese and his international teammate is "the greatest football player of the past 20 years". I'll be suspicious for a while on Nelson, no offence, just like I am on another Barca legend - Andre Gomes.

completely agree with this. If he turns out to be 45 m

1. we will have won atleast one la liga, atleast 1 CL
2. Messi will be ballon de or winner...(thanks to him :p)

And then, 2 years later if an average player is going for 40 m or 50 m, he surely can be a bargain, even for 30 m given he remains a starting RB and we don't have to look for replacement.
