Neymar Jr. - v5

Neymar insisted he didn't leave because he's nr. 2 at Barca, but I think his biggest fear was to get old with Messi eclipsing him.
30m? I totally bet we would've offered him at some point a huge raise, he knows that, maybe not 30m as a fixed salary but we offered him enough, just think he was getting 26m if he stayed as a loyalty bonus already, but he won't get it.
I'm pretty sure that bonus was negociated 1 year ago especially because his crook father blackmailed our staff knowing PSG are interested in him and would pay even the immense sum for him, it wasn't set there for nothing.
All that trouble to sign a player which, indeed, helped us win the Champions League once, but with Messi and Suarez in the attack, that seems not like much in 4 years tbh.

His move to PSG proves he feared he would've never been a nr. 1 anywhere except in his home country because at 25 years old, superstar players were already either nr. 1 at their teams or have won a Ballon D'Or, while he had none at Barca, with the only consolation he is nr. 1 in Brazil's squad but that's not enough, maybe unless Brazil does it in Russia and wins the trophy(which won't depend on him especially if the defense fails once again).
He want's to be seen as a hero, in Paris he will be nr. 1 and nr. 1 in France, I guess he would've left for City or United too but they never would've splashed this kind of money for him, it would've happened for sure if the release clause was half that they would've fought for him and raise the bid, but nothing close to 222m. For the simple fact they payed this amount of money for him and will splash maybe half a billion bucks on him he has already assured a spot in the light he dreamed of.

Yeah, in his place many will say "we would have never left Barca", but the difference is we are Barca fans and we wouldn't leave for 1 billion, imagine it the other way around, or that you were neutral to both clubs, it's tempting to get the nr. 1 status, earn a good chunk of money, be in the spotlight for sure and not even have the worst defenses to play against, even if Monaco had a good year, they will half their squad by September and be mediocre again.

What, more exactly, makes you think that?

Because I think Neymar left the shaddow of Messi to be the superstar he wouldn't have been?

His father seems to confirm that in an interview, though I'm not really sure how he let his father speak for him after he just "insisted" it wasn't that.

He is trolling as usual.

Neymar left because he isn't the type of player who stays with a club for his whole career. He won everything you can win in club football with Barcelona and now he takes a new challenge. And yes, maybe he had to leave his comfort zone to become a better player. With Alexis it was the same. He had to leave to exploit his full potential. Overall he is a much better player compared to the one he was in Barcelona.

Of course money was a big factor too.

All these posts have one thing in common, they end with "ofc money was a big factor too" ...that was the main factor people, wake up, all that text before is just bla bla, challenge, bla, being the main man, bla, bla... and so on. Those ppl are greedy, if they were not, they wouldn't have waited till the 31. to try collecting the loyalty bonus.

neymar left for money, simple as that why is this even a discussion lol

As I said, my opinion is linked to the fact money was his last problem at Barcelona, he just lost a big chunk of money from the loyalty bonus which was clearly a masked salary for this year just by leaving.

Of course, you can't expect for him to leave for less cash just to escape the shadow of Leo, but I'm sure that wasn't the main reason, in 2-3 years time he would've have earned a similar sum on Camp Nou for sure with who knows what salary and extra resigning bonuses.

We signed a contract with Nike earlier this year that clearly gave us more power for the future while I'm pretty sure we were willing to keep Neymar even if it meant by the time he will be 30 we would splash 30 per year on him.

Now he might end up losing and regretting this, who knows what things Maradona or Ronaldo would've achieved on Camp Nou, but while Maradona was the worlds greatest player he would've never been seen as a true King in Barcelona as he was in Napoli for 2 titles and a UEFA Cup, but he has the World Cup of Mexico on his back while Ronaldo has done similar with Brazil in 2002, Neymar might not get any of these two, or he might achieve both, cause PSG isn't Napoli of the 80's and indeed they have their chances for the CL(though it looks much more likely they will fail even with him than triumph there) while Brazil looks good for Russia(but then again, look at Brazil in 2006, not even a Tsar Bomba looked capable of stopping that team). It's almost impossible for him to achieve something at PSG at a team level comparable to what he could've here but on a personal level he does have the chance to draw more attention to himself as the King of Seine, for example, look at Ibrahimovic, he was hailed like a Greek Goddess by those guys while in Barca he would have never been anything more than just part of the squad(ignoring the later incidents with Pep), let's face it, at least for me, if I would be a PSG fan, I would see him as I see Messi or saw Ronaldinho 10 years ago.

Now I believe, while PSG is also sponsored by Nike, which is Neymar's sponsor too for 9.5m bucks a season, the company isn't happy they're paying us that money without the 3rd most printed player in the world in the squad no more. He makes almost 10m a year with Nike and guaranteed for 10 years, I'm sure he contributed to our sales of jerseys, but he didn't with out fan base in general(maybe except Brazil) such as R10 and Leo, cause I've been a Barca fan since the end of the 90's as a kid, I lived seeing the boom of new fans around 2004/05 and later with Messi around the the time we were killing those UCLs in Rome and London.

Neymar left Barca to win Champions League and golden ball. it was not possible with Barca, let's be honest.

Neymar will have Rabiot and Verratti at PSG. one of the best midfielders in the world. with right investments in the next 1-2 years, PSG can win Champions League easily.

Next year, 34 years old Ronaldo will win Golden ball. Sad for Neymar. He won't it even if Barca wins Champions League, just because he will be in shadow of Messi.
