Neymar Jr. - v5

Some small dosage of objectivity wouldn't hurt...
He had bad movements, good moments, a bad free-kick, a bad finishing attempt, but otherwise he played okay.

There were exactly 20 fouls given against Athletico and out of the 20 there were 11 (!), more than half for Neymar. Not too easy to play when a player is hunted all the time.

He does pressure very good and his dribbling and defending is very good but his finishing is copacabana level. This is not a fucking beach football, he is fucking up loads of attacks with his nonchalante finishing (Betis as well)

There were a lot more similar misses in key matches this season:

If he scored only 2-3 goals from all his chances, we would probably be on top of La liga right now, even with our poor form.

ok game i guess.. That horrible miss had a lot to do with the dry pitch, atletico always avoid watering the grass against barca and bayern to make the ball jumpy, thus making life hard for technical players .. in games like these he did what he does best, absorb the pressure and putting it upon himself by maintaining the ball, he's the only player doing that. you can see in the second half when he didn't do that, we were simply deprived of the ball. because we all know our team is not capable of making 4 or 5 passes under pressure anymore. First half he was fantastic, seond half he could have done better.

We have big wage problems at the moment.

Sell him for 100 million and use the money to help rebuild in certain positions. Then we can free up a huge amount of wages too.

Even going back to his days of playing kinderfootball in Brazil he was always the subject of a large number of fouls. It tends to happen to players who over dribble the ball. As a referee you get players like that from time to time, and it's almost impossible for them to learn their lesson, so the fouls just keep racking up. Even still, that didn't seem to be a problem that affected his ability to score until the turn of 2016 (Yes he's been this bad for that long).

He's more likely to miss a good opportunity than score, which is a huge problem for a player of his enormous salary and value.

That would be good, if the people in charge were good doing signings. They are not, and it could be a waste of money. Look at the summer signing. Also, I doubt Rosell will let Barto sell him. Only option is if Neymar'd want to leave himself, but he doesn't.

Besides, it's the easiest way to stop our attacks... Just a mild foul and Neymar will cause him to go flying into the air and landing in the ground, so the opposition players can stop the attack and don't get a yellow card... However, fouling Suárez requires a strong tackle that might result in a card and tackling Messi is almost impossible, because he either continues or the foul must be really hard to stop him resulting in a yellow card...

So yeah, that he gets fouled a lot reaps more benefits for opposition than for us, especially since those fouls usually happen way too far from their goal...

Sometimes it is a problem for the player, sometimes it is not. It's almost random.
When one gets fouled 10-20 times (often some of those not even given) besides the probable physical pain and falling/hitting the ground too many times, just takes away the immediate capability of concentration, which may be there before the serial-fouls.

In a calm match all players can concentrate better, but when a particular player is fouled that many times, concentration definitely suffers a lot because besides playing football he also plays the role of a stunt-artist, so needs to concentrate ALSO on how to fall without getting hurt.

If you remember or look back, in violent games where Messi was the main target and victim, his concentration also suffered to the same extent, as it most often would for any attacking type of player.

Nope, sorry.
Neymar gets most often fouled when he is getting the ball from Alba or one of the midfielders when we are trying to bring out the ball, very close to the line, when he is moving towards the ball in the direction of our own goal. In these situations it's usually very difficult to play the ball, so if it results in a free-kick, it's an advantage for us starting from somewhere the middle.
When he gets fouled while attacking (usually dribbling in his case) it can also turn to an advantage if free-kicks are accomplished well.

In Neymar's case he dribbles a lot (because that's his specialty and his own style) but most often it happens when there is nobody to pass the ball clearly. That's why the essence of this MSN-type of playing is - on the left -, that Neymar tries to get through 2-3 defenders and THEN tries to find Messi, and less frequently Suarez with a clearer pass...

The things is that we are not taking advantage of those free-kicks in the middle of the park, because the once the ball is in play it will go all the way back to the GK so we can start our whole attacking movement again with the opposition fully settled in defense... So, after taking the free-kick, our attack doesn't resume from where the foul was committed, it is effectively reset by the opposition with a simple foul...

Calma, calma
Neymar shoulders some of the blame for getting fouled so much. He dilly-dallies too often, showing the ball to the defender and inviting the tackle in. Today, there were multiple counter-attacking opportunities where he had passing options available, but he'd rather hold on to the ball and taunt the defender. He broke down some good attacking situations because of his propensity to get fouled so much.

Not only is it annoying to watch, but it's also detrimental to the team. Against teams like Atleti, letting them regroup is just ceding total advantage to them. Look at the two goals Barca scored today. First, a dispossession by Mascherano and an immediate sprint down the pitch by Suarez, before Atleti could get numbers back. Second, a thunder shot by Messi that went through defenders and hit the post before going in, with just one slight touch before it to set the shot up. An impossible goal to defend. The last time he scored this type of goal was in 2008 against Osasuna, a rarity.

Noticed that as well, it's their go-to tactics to stop our attacks early and with REFS giving plenty of leeway, it's an effective way to press hard and not be exposed to quick counters...

Just glad neither him or Leo got injured. Like Potroh said, not only these accumulated tackles leave a mark, just takes a single bad one and a player could be out for months. With these high counts, it's just a matter of time. Really crossing fingers it doesn't happen again...

in other news: WWF just issued a red alert, it's gonna be open season with bazookas & roblox HSMs on the Urupadi Neyney if he doesn't find the net real soon. Think adrenaline played a role as well in that miss. He would score that one with eyes closed in practice... maybe just too eager to break the scoring rut :wbounce:
