Messi saga has just well and truly begun after this news.

Neymar apparently making ~60m gross on this contract. I don't think we can afford to give even Leo those kind of wages.

Qatar has no limit.

Well... I'm not complaining. I want us to rethink our model. Involve La Masia more, stop overpaying players, stop signing overrated "stars" that don't deliver, be a bit better organized, look to sign better managers who can build top teams without us needing to sign super-luxury players left and right.

Become more like Bayern basically. We make enough money to build great, competitive teams. If we get our shit together and stop trying to match PSG's no-limit Qatar-based oil funds.

Imagine how bad would a 4-2-3-1 with Neymar - Messi - Mbappe + Haaland would be defensively. These guys would surely fuck it up if they would think about something like that. Only the Qataris would be crazy enough to try something like that.

Whilst Neymar was a better player for Barca than Griezmann and Dembele combined, Barca cannot afford to splash huge sums of money on soon to be 30 year old players whilst other areas of the team need upgrading too.

Actually quite surprised PSG are willing to Chuck that much money at him to be fair too at this point.

PSG is doing that because money was never a concern for them. It's an unfair playing field, when teams aren't worried about being financially secure, because of state funding from oil heaves like Qatar and EAU.

This is the frustration of Barca and Madrid. They want to keep their galactico model and sign the hottest stars but are unable to match the likes PSG financially, because Barca and Madrid are self-supported clubs, can't spend more than what they take in. They can only maintain a galactico-approach if star players don't focus on money a lot. But as we've seen, money is the no1 motivation these days for most superstars. This means advantage PSG.

The Perez interview really summed up how fucking entitled they (and truth to be told we) are/were. I am glad this is over (even if its by force). We will see if the lesson has been learned in regards to Haaland very soon.

Money has always been a major motivation it is just that likes of Barca/Real could dwarf most other clubs on what could pay.

Nothing new.
