We know from very reliable sources that Barcelona want Kante.
We know from very reliable sources that Arsenal/Emery want Gomes.

We could be trying to use Gomes in this deal to leverage some more money from Arsenal for Gomes.

If the rumors about Kante being valued around 100m are true, then it would make sense to go after him given the Griezmann failure.
