Nico Gonzalez

We need him back. Gavi can't play DM. He will be good for the second pivot for rotation w Pedri, Casado and Bernal. Naturally we have to sell the Dutchman

We will need to sell Gavi too in such case tbh.
While I believe Gavi still struggle to identify a certain clear position in midfield, in double pivot he is Pedri backup when Frenkie leaves. Will be a spit in the face if we bring back Nico after selling Frenkie.

Haven't watched Nico this season but seems he is being treated same as Pedri tactically. Either playing in a double pivot with Varela as the defensive CM or at AM with Eustaqio playing next to Varela.

30M buyback or 40% sell on after initial 8.5M fee

So either an overall profit of 32.5M in a 60M transfer to Premiership, or pay 21.5M net for one of our own to pair with Casado. On balance, considering FFP, hope for a big sale to help with the books

I liked him since his pre-season in 2021, he showed Busi-esque skills & positioning combined with physical attributes to be a box to box ala Fabian Ruiz. Casualty of Bartomeu’s financially ruinous reign

He fits 4231 system and honestly is a no brainer if we manage to sell few midfielders fir profit (Frenkie, Fermin & Torre).

He has grown alot in the Porkchop, but then again look at Samu. That league knows how to show all the good bits and hide the negatives.

But basically, if Edwards and Slopp want him, then that should turn our heads. Nico is double pivot through and through with a dabble of AMC when needed. Exactly what we need if we get rid of Frenkie and bring Thiago back to brush up the translations which are clearly getting lost atm

Hughes, Edwards isn't their SD. Common mistake for some reason.

Another goal and an assist tonight, really coming to his own at Porto, in that 4-2-3-1 formation no less, for which I feel he was always meant/perfect for. That buyback could be a shrewd operation if we manage to offload Frenkie the upcoming summer, would be a very good option alongside Pedri, Casado, Bernal and possibly Gavi in that midfield two. An already ready like for like replacement for FDJ, for what I would hope would be less than what we get for Frenkie.

Then again, if some big shot PL club comes in and offers a premium price (>50M) to Porto, I imagine we'll be very tempted to take that 40-ish sell on clause for some more pure profit on the books, cause that's 20M easy. But I'd rather take 50M for De Jong, and pay the 30M and bring our boy back and probably end up with the better player honestly. And boys like Casado and Bernal could really benefit from having a more experienced home boy to look up to, someone at least a few years older than them and who's already been 'out into the world' a bit.

Bring him back he'll cook better than Casado low key
Not a great comparison, since he's literally the De Jong replacement, needs that pure DM by his side to really thrive, that's been in most cases Varela, who I always felt we missed out on (but I guess then Casado wouldn't have gotten the break that he did, so all good) and tonight Estaquio.

Not bad idea bringing him back but if we sell De Jong I'd rather spend those money to reinforce some of the other much needed positions (fullback, striker, backup winger). After that, could look towards bringing him back indeed.

Yep, total bullshit here again, Frenkie won't be sold.
And he is decent, but should be nowhere near our midfield now. Not the type we need.
