Nico Williams

We need a pure LW, so we should sign him and for the price, doesn't get much better.

We would have struggled to register both him and olmo this summer.

So it kinda worked out for us, Olmo is more versatile

Laporta was always ready with his pals to give a bank guarantee in the last day like he did last summer for Kounde. The registration was never in danger.

edit: I mean 2 summers ago ofc.

Yea it would have gotten done in the end, like every transfer we've made.

But the struggle bus would have been in full effect, at least next summer that shouldn't be an issue.

During a 4-way video call in early August between Laporta in Baltimore, Deco in Porto, Nico's agent in Pamplona, and Nico Williams in Marbella, Nico Williams gave Laporta the 'yes'. Before that, in a long meeting at a hotel in Zaragoza, the player's agent and Deco met face-to-face. During that meeting, the contract terms were agreed upon, and several important points were discussed. At Barça, the mood was very optimistic. In fact, several directors believed the signing practically guaranteed. Nico then reported to training at Lezama, one week earlier than expected. Barça’s directors still trusted Williams’ word, even though the sight of him with the number 10 jersey dashed Laporta’s dreams of seeing Nico Williams in a Barça shirt. In the end the player chose to stay. Via:

Barca shouldn't embarrass themselves and run after a player for several seasons like Madrid did with Mbappe. He didn't want to come, it's fine. If Rapha continues to play like this, we don't need Nico.
Inability to register player is only reason why he is not already blaugrana

Should keep our eyes open and abandon the Barca tradition of always chasing previous targets.

Sign Nico if deemed best there is in our price range. Don’t sign Nico because he was deemed best there was last summer.

The answer to this is literally 2 posts above.
The response to that is that Olmo wasn’t registered until the 3rd match of this temporada, and only after Ilkay & Lenglet’s contracts were addressed and quite critically Andreas’ cap relief through injury

So no, nothing was guaranteed for Nico

Laporta waited for the end of the window for this option obviously. Of course he doesn't throw around huge bank guarantees if he finds another way. But he confirmed it himself that he was ready for it if absolutely necessary and we saw this already happening with Kounde.
That's why players still sign for us, although the media make a big drama out of it if the players can be registered. No agent, no player would have agreed without Laporta's guarantee he can register him in the very end if necessary. It was the same with Nico. So please stop the fairytales he isn't here because of the registration. He isn't here because he wanted to stay.

Come on, this is a futile argument. Olmo wasn’t registered until into the season, how on earth could Nico be assured of registration when guarantees were not made

By your logic, the fortuitous Andreas injury and waiting until after the season to register a player who had no guarantees was straightforward and played no role in why Nico stayed - knowing full well we could not register him with us still not 1:1 with Liga FFP

It’s a nonsensical claim, I expected more sense from you

Can you read the full posts please? I wrote we already saw this with Kounde happening, who was registered with Laporta's guarantee on 28th of August, in your words "into the season" after 2 games played right at the end of the window. It's not too difficult to understand the fact, that Laporta is always ready to guarantee a registration with his and his friends money, but only on the last day if everything else fails.

So why didn't Laporta sign Nico if he really said yes and register him on the last day with the personal guarantee?

Don't buy these stories about Nico giving his yes to Laporta. His preference was always to play in Europe with his brother, especially with this season's UEL final at San Mames.

Nico's season so far:
10 LaLiga games, 1 goal against Las Palmas, 1 assist.
3 Europe League games, 1 goal against Prag, 1 assist.

He has 2 goals and 2 assists in 13 games at this point, both goals against weak opponents. Despite his short injury, a very poor start. Did he overperform in the Euros? Is it a psychological thing because he missed his window joining us and it's dragging him down? I don't follow him, only see his stats.
Bilbao plays decent enough to have more scorer points for a winger with his format.
