He is like our Tony Martial, but not as bad. Everyone expects him to reach his Dortmund/ Monaco days but it hasn't happened and ain't ever going to happen.

He will have the odd mesmerising performance but it's always just a flash in the pan. Last season's level is the best it's going to get really. Anyone expecting better is in for disappointment.

de were both atrocious in WC final.. but to be fair to Dembele he had a decent WC overall and better than majority of his club team mates who went out earlier.

This, it was a consecration that he matured a lot... Even if people where pretty hard with him, i thought he played smartly and was perfectly used by Deschamps.
Good at closing the space on his side, didn't lose many ball, still had this "x factor" where you can't ignore him if he's on your side... But his Final was legit one of the worst performance i see with a big player at this stage of a competition.

Seniority possibly.
Most players appreciate that when voting, currently he has the seniority in the club after current captain and vice captain. The voting will be for 3rd and 4th captains so that is why he is probably constantly. And will be the de-facto 5th captain at worst as club (and most teams) go by Seniority once selected captains aren't playing.

Only thing I'm disappointed about is the dumb process at Barca along with the lack of proper leadership in the squad. Only Araujo and Gundogan have that IMO.

No, just defend him from all unreasoned attacks.

Leadership is one thing, but you can't make people that just arrived at a club captains because they are leaders.
They need also the time and bond with the club.
