Paco Alcácer

Lucho, said in his post match yesterday, how Paco is the same player as he was when he got here but he's more confident.

Here's a video of him last season with Valencia. It's actually interesting, despite not playing as much and when you compare his minutes to guys like Gomes, he's improved and he put in a lot more effort into trying to play as how a Barca striker should.

Paco, despite limited minutes, improved his play and confidence and is contributing.
Maybe someone like Gomes lackes the mental toughness (among other things) to play for a team like Barcelona.

Paco at lw 1000 times before gomes in the midfield.

Easily but Lucho always seems to favour Gomes. He's been worthless and yet we find him starting lots of games and getting lots of minutes as a sub. I wouldnt be surprised at all if Iniesta was moved to LW just so Gomes can start.

I mean two different positions obviously (Midfield vs Striker) but out of the two Valencia players, Paco is putting more of an effort and fight to impress and improve. It sucks that his price tag will haunt him though (30 Million).

30m in this day and age isn't that much. It shouldn't "haunt" anyone.

Umtiti cost only 5m less and we're all (rightly) talking about how much of a bargain he is.

The difference between Umtiti and Paco is one is a starter who is the backbone of our defense while the other is a mediocre at best backup who will most likely be replaced in a couple of months.

Just thinking....Inaki Williams buyout is 30m I believe. If we had signed him(him agreeing to come), he would have been an incredible backup for all three positions up front, and a future starter too.

Actually, never mind

He signed a new contract with a 50m clause.

He has not been that great this season and dont think he has the ability on the ball to play for Barca yet anyway. Paco was better than him last season than he has been this by far.

Point is, in this day and age, no young player who is any good or has any kind of hype behind him (which Paco did have when we bought him) will ever go for less than 30m. Unless we're the ones selling him, of course. It's a miracle that we managed to get Umtiti for 25. In this market it's basically our equivalent of RM getting Varane for 10. Much better actually, since Umtiti was nowhere near the complete unknown Varane was. It's not the kind of price tag that should be "haunting" anyone, even if it is a good bit of money wasted on our part (partly because we can't sell for shit, RM would easily get 20m back for him). 100m? That's the kind of price tag that could "haunt" a player. 60m maybe. 30m is chump change in this market, especially if you know how to sell.

I think this is great point. Look at how much English teams are splashing around money. 30 million ain't the same It was 5 years, or 10 years ago. 30 million doesn't even buy you star players anymore.

I belieeve people were happy when we signed Paco, because we needed him. He is still way better option than Sandro or Munir last season, think about it. I feel way better having current Paco there than I felt last year having Munir and Sandro. Munir and Sandro has grown as a players since then, though and they are looking better, but they would probably never improve this much, If they played for Barcelona. They needed playing time, so it was right decision to sign someone like Paco.

Even now when he's not invisible he's not as good as Munir was last season.

Paco is not the problem. The midfield is the problem. Paco is a good 4th option in attack to have. And if we get Deulofeu back, we're set in offence. We should only be interested in upgrading our midfield, and our defense. Attack is fine.
