I think we are in a better need of a new world-class midfielder than in a back-up forward. Rafinha, Denis Suarez and Turan ca cover for RW and LW. Midfield lately is struggling and I see Pogba as a Luis Enrique type of midfielder, he can do everything, he can defend, attack, create and dribble. offer 100m and Turan and sign him up. Rotate heavily the midfield next year

I still remember those days when you were running a Pogba journal on how he sucks as evidenced by comments by Juve forumites :rofl1:

He sucked and he still has flaws.
But our's team lack of motivation (except Suarez and 2-3 other players) sucks way more than Pogba.

There is a moment when your mental batteries are just drained to a non rechargeable level.

Messi: 4 Cls
Iniesta: 4 Cls, World cup, Euro cup
Busi: 3 Cls, World cup, Euro cup
Alves: 3 Cls
Pique: 3 Cls, World cup, Euro cup
Masch: 3 Cls etc

Our core won too many trophies.
My personal prediction is that our core may have even worse season next season than this one.

They were almost "dead" 2 seasons ago, but Lucho managed to recharge their batteries for a few Months in 2015.
But their bodies and minds (motivation) also have an expiration date.

Over time we will:
1. either change our whole core
2. or keep some oldies and add a lot of new guys, who haven't won trophies, who will "lead" our team in a motivational way
(Like Ronnie, Etoo and others in 2006, or Pique, Busi and others in Pep's era)

We currently don't have any new players/fresh blood.
Roberto, Rafinha and others aren't good enough to be starters. So, we won't get blood from them.

so we buy pogba for motivation?

Most likely BS, just like a couple of years ago it was reported that Reus was buying a house in an upscale area of Madrid.

so we buy pogba for motivation?

In 2004, when Laporta and Rijkaard came, our team was poor and ended a cycle.
They sold all players from that era and bought a new team of players who never won any (CL or NT) trophies, except Deco (CL) and Ronnie (WC 2002).
I remember reading an interview in 2004, and Rijkaard said:
"We (Laporta, Txiki and him) wanted players who were leaders and captains in their former teams.
But who never won any trophies, except domestic titles.
That way we will get a team filled with leaders, filled with motivation and filled with awesome skills.
Plus, they added a few La Masia players, to keep Barca's Dna, style and that supporters can relate more with a team."

New players: Ronnie, Etoo, Deco, Guily, Larsson, Marquez, Edmilson, VBronckhorst etc
Domestic players: Xavi, Iniesta, Puyol, Oleguer, Valdes

After a few years of winning with Rijkaard's team, we lost a motivation for too many of those players.
Pep came, kicked majority of them (the same as Rijkaard with Van Gaal's legacy-players), and kept only La Masia guys: Xavi, Iniesta, Puyol, Valdes, Messi
He brought some new guys and promoted some new, fresh La Masia guys, who again haven't won any trophies and who were full of motivation.

8 years later, majority of Pep's players are still here.
The problems is that we won 3 CLs since then and 6 La Ligas. Plus some NT trophies for Spanish guys.

But the problem of motivation and with an end of a cycle is knocking on our doors, the same as in the beginning of Rijkaard's and Pep's era.
We have a few somewhat fresh-blood players in Suarez, Neymar (but he has his own psychological issues already), Rakitic, Vidal.
Other guys are just here for too long, imo.

In the next 2-3-4 years, we will have to change majority of Pep's team.
Or keep 2-3-4 guys and add a lot of new, fresh blood, the same as how Pep did with keeping La Masia players and Messi.

So, to answer your question:
Pogba is a quality which will bring some good things, new solutions, but also, he is an example of new blood which this team needs.
We will need more players like him in the future, who are quality, and who haven't won CLs or World cups till now.

4CL actually
And I think RM winning he CL could act as a motivator for those players tbh.

Imo, our batteries were already in 2014 at 30% at best.
Lucho managed to recharge us, but it was a short term success (in terms of motivation of these old players).
We won a CL, and this season batteries fell to (let's say) 20-30%, and we weren't able to recharge them anymore, and it was clear this spring.

Real won a CL, it will slightly recharge our batteries to 30-50%, but imo again, that is far from 100% of motivation/batteries which we had in 2003 when Rijkaard has built a new team or in 2009 when Pep has built a new team.

My personal feeling is that our team in terms of motivation is something like post-Galacticos in 2004, 2005, 2006.
Older players (Zidane, Beckham, Figo, Roberto Carlos, Ronaldo, Raul) who have tons of skills and experience, but who won too many titles, and they are now losing battles to other top teams with younger players with (slightly less skills), but far more motivation.

Imo, we still have more skills than Real.
Let's say (my estimation):
Barca:
1. skills 99/100
2. motivation 50/100 at best

Real:
1. skills 90/100
2. motivation 80-90/100

I have said a few times before: Messi, Iniesta, Busi, Alves, Masch, imo, their motivation can be only weaker and weaker with each new season.
They still have tons of skills and can play awesome, but with too many players in the starting 11 who are "dead" with their motivation, it is a no surprise that we are easily knocked out by thugs like Atletico Madrid.

So, my answer or my hope is not only Pogba or Gundogan.
But Pogba and at least one similar star player next summer, plus at least 2-3 guys like Lemos.
And over 3-4 Seasons, we should have 5-6-7-8 new starters.
Since La Masia is dead currently, it seems that we will need 5-6-7-8 bought starters (and since some transfers will fail), for 5-8 starters, we will need 8-12 transfer attempts surely over the next 2-3-4 years.
