I was not a fan of his before the WC but while modric and rakitic were getting praise (deservedly), pogba was actually the best midfielder of the tournament by all metrics. With pogba we could still keep vidal for 1 year as a backup option while starting to set the roots for a Pogba, Arthur, Busquets midfield for the next 2-3-4 years (after which busquets would need replacing).

By what metrics? Modric was by far the best midfielder of the tournament. Busi also doesn’t have another 4 years of world class football in him, no way.

I rate Pogba highly but signing him makes sense ONLY if Rakitic is going the other way to MUN. Othervise it won’t happen and for sure not for Gomes+Mina+cash. Mourinho is not an idiot to take Gomes. Mina+Rakitic+cash could happen but I doubt Rakitic would agree unless they offer him a big salary raise.

That being said I am not sure Pogba would ba a good fit. He is just a galactico signing who prefers direct type of football, he is not something we truly need. IMHO midfield is OK in it’s current state (after we sell Gomes, Samper, Rafinha and Denis) and we have this entire year to try to incorporate Alena and Arthur. Next year we can do the same with De Jong and Puig. If we get Pogba and Rakitic stays here Alena has to go on loan for at least a year othervise he won’t play at all. We need to start trusting our talented kids and save the money for next summer when we will have to spend big time on a new CF.

Entire world is praising Puig and Alena was nominated for a golden boy award and we are trying to spend a shitload of cash on a player who probably won’t be a good fit. I can’t understand that logic. For me watching Alena and Puig grow would be much more exciting than spending 150 mil on Pogba, but that’s just my opinion.

He's a first team player. Literally, that's it. Can't be hyped for the future when it's more or less here already. Even if it is his first season.

Alena is head and shoulders above any midfield talent we have right now aside obviously from Arthur but there are people who shit on him now and will say absolutely anything to put down his talent, even going as far as to call him a generic workhorse

The only way we are going to get Pogba is in the summer of 2020 when Rakitic and Vidal are eventually phased out and plus he'll be cheaper with one year left on contract (unless Man utd extend it). If we do sign De Jong next summer, our option for 2020 in CM could be like this: Busi, Pogba, Arthur, De Jong, Roberto, Alena, Puig.

Yeah I agree. The sad thing is that this forum is full of “I told you so” people who shit on every young player so they can feel smart afterwards since the chance of succeeding is always smaller. Majority of them only care for 100+ mil signings.
