Madrid have a significantly better squad and balanced lineup than us despite whatever the results may tell right now, but Messi along with some bad form for Madrid's top dogs is the great equalizer right now.
In terms of their future, they don't look much better than us.
Their attack looks to be in really bad shape for the present and future as well. Ronaldo is declining and rapidly, he is on Suarez levels of bad right now and might not have much longer than this season left for Madrid. Bale is inconsistent both with his form and ability to stay healthy, he isn't getting any younger either. Benzema, well is just Benzema. They really have no one in the pipelines that could come through and replace anyone in BBC, Asensio is one of the most over hyped, overrated players in modern times being compared with Dembele and Mbappe for scoring a few long range shots, but has generally not shown much otherwise, he does have potential though.
This was the summer for them to get Mbappe, sell Bale before his stock fell any lower, sell Benzema, keep Morata and phase out Ronaldo. They could've run Mbappe/Ronaldo-Morata-Asensio/Isco for a season or two until they either found and adequate replacement for RW or fixed the problem internally if Asensio develops into a star . Instead, like most teams that had success they rested on their laurels and ended up declining.
Their defense doesn't look to great either now, while I must admit Varane is a great talent at CB, Ramos is getting exposed worse than he ever has been and Carvajal looks to be on a steep decline.
Other than their ridiculously loaded midfield, Madrid have a lot of holes that need to be plugged sooner rather than later for them.
