Yeah it was clear long time ago that our midfield cant go on with the weak Xavi and Iniesta that cant provide any defensive cover. Most teams use box to box

We could even use a double-pivot, which we should have used against a team like Bayern Munich.

La Roja failed this summer trying 4-3-3 when the secret to their success was Busquets/Alonso. It's like having an extra defender out there. It does slow the game down a little bit and makes it more methodical. I believe Busquets/Song as a double-pivot could also work.

Tito has the personnel to get creative and experiment a little.

 made a mistake and posted it in Cesc thread, anyway.

The problem with Song to me seems that he is slow in making decisions and as you say slows down the game + he is pretty much slow in terms of speed to get up and down the midfield.Personally i would like to have Gundogan,he seems energetic, fast and can make correct and fast decisions,he has good attacking abilities and defensive too

He has played 500 out of 800 minutes in the last 2 months. You can't accummulate 500 out of 800 minutes by playing "garbage minutes". It's elementary school maths. lol

In the last 9 games (last 2 months which Galning has mentioned) Thiago has started 5 times and played less than 30 minutes only once.

In the last 18 games of the season he has started 12 times.

Stop acting like he was some kind of Bojan-esque 85 minute sub and let's talk about facts. He got as many minutes as any other midfielder could hope to get in a team with Xaviestabregas.

i know gaining was talking about 2 months and you use that because it suits your point, but the facts are clear he only ever played more than 30 minutes 15 times when he was available, a no amount of skewing minutes played to suit a point that he should be happy with the minutes get got can change that fact, over the course of the season he got mainly nothing minutes, no amount of minutes played without proper context can change this.

Your numbers are wrong to begin with. He played more than 30 minutes 21 times. Not 15. And he has missed 17 games due to injury.

Tito had more obvious opportunities to play Thiago though. Overall, his minutes weren't too bad but we had the season wrapped up months before the end of the season. There were so many games where Xavi would start which were pretty meaningless. If Pep was in Tito's situation with the league so early over I'm certain he would have played Thiago much more.

And Tito would have kept Etoo insted of making the worst deal in barça history : Etoo+ 45M for Zlatan.
All to please Pep´s "feeling"...

This is not FM. If Thiago wanted to play more this season he would have stayed. In Munich he will be a bench boy all the time.

It's not even true that Pep gave him more minutes. Someone set this myth in the world and everyone is repeating it now the same way everyone is crazy for ter Stegen for some ridiculous reason although it's obvious that absolutely no one on this forum has every watched a single Mönchengladbach game for full 90 minutes.

When Thiago was fit, Tito gave him 1200 minutes in the second half of the season. Pep gave him 800 minutes. Despite 3-4-3. Fabregas had a stinker of a second half yet it was Fabregas who started against Leverkusen, Milan and Chelsea in the knockout stages. Thiago only played the Camp Nou league Clasico because Pep had to rest Fabregas and Alexis 3 days before the Chelsea return leg and the Clasico was the less important game because even with a victory Barca would have had less points than Madrid with only 3 or 4 games remaining (which Madrid went on to win anyway). Otherwise Fabregas was his prefered player in big games as evident in his minutes in the CL knockout stages. Thiago didn't play more and Thiago didn't play more big games under Pep.

Excellent post. Sadly, you're wasting your time as it'll be ignored, it's like talking to a brickwall. Its absolutely mindboggling how you can present people with FACTS like this and yet, they keep spouting the same rebuttal, but hey ho...

This mostly falls on deaf ears here. Barca needed one goal to reach the cl final and Pep subbed on Seydou Keita and left Thiago on the bench against Chelsea. Just imagine the meltdown if that had happened this year. Its amazing how 2012 has been completely white washed.

He could've gotten a bit more. I think he reached 58% of the available minutes he contract specified, so Tito just had to play him a bit more(the game xavi was on painkillers could do it), and his buyout would be 90m. Thiago could still want to leave, but Barça would have the upperhand in negotiations.

Ok, so Tito gives him the games, its up to 60%. Buyout clause now 90 million, what the past week showed us was that Pep clearly wanted him anyway it panned out. Bayern aren't going to pay anymore than 30 million for him, considering how desperate he was to play for Pep they would have been able to get him for around 30 million even with the buyout clause, and lets be honest, 30 million for Thiago is reasonable considering Goetze and Isco (both arguably better players) went for something similar or slightly more.
So, 5m Euros give or take short, is it really that much of a difference in the grand scheme of things? Thiago would have gone either way.

but we have no way to know if tito even knew at this point.
About the clause? He should had known, but Zubi should had alerted him in time, if Tito really didn't know.

I dont really care thiago is gone. If a player doesnt want to be at Barça, better go. But I think they could have gotten more than 30m. Barça would, at least, had more power to negotiate.
