The clause increases the price but doesnt make Thiago want to stay.

Do you think Rosell should have insisted he play to meet the clause?

Of course. Small difference between negotiating with a club when his release is 18 instead of 90. He didn't even have to play him that much if he thinks he didn't deserve it. Two subs (maybe even at 90 minutes) in those 5 meaningless games were enough.
I can't believe how poor we are at transfers, contracts, deals, etc...

Calma, calma
Basic common sense says Thiago should play over Xavi, Iniesta, Messi, Maradona whoever if the result is that his release clause jumps up to 500% of current value. Tito had opportunities to do it as well with irrelevant games at the end of the season. At the time, I wanted the best possible team to play to get the 100 points because I was confident that Thiago wouldn't leave.

However, it seems Tito was pretty sure Thiago was unhappy - that's all the more reason to give him more minutes as then it's very likely that Thiago would want to leave and it's in Barca's best interests to get as much money as possible for Thiago.

His statement "I don't pick players based on release clauses" makes sense if he was talking about important games but otherwise it's a  thing to say. He should've played him in the last few games if Thiago's feelings were really that bad because let's face it, Thiago is no scrub - Barca would've reached the 100 points regardless.

Ok, so Tito gives him the games, its up to 60%. Buyout clause now 90 million, what the past week showed us was that Pep clearly wanted him anyway it panned out. Bayern aren't going to pay anymore than 30 million for him, considering how desperate he was to play for Pep they would have been able to get him for around 30 million even with the buyout clause, and lets be honest, 30 million for Thiago is reasonable considering Goetze and Isco (both arguably better players) went for something similar or slightly more.
So, 5m Euros give or take short, is it really that much of a difference in the grand scheme of things? Thiago would have gone either way.

I agree with you. Either way, he wanted to leave and 25M is a price I can be satisfied with.

On another note, what is going on in between Tito and Pep is more concerning, no? 28 years they've worked together and both represent different cule values, although a bit differently. As a fan, this makes me sad, I don't want to pick sides between the two... but it's hard to overlook Pep not visiting Tito in NYC. I really just don't know what to think

Pep style :worthy:

They look like they swapped shoes.

It's not even true that Pep gave him more minutes. Someone set this myth in the world and everyone is repeating it now the same way everyone is crazy for ter Stegen for some ridiculous reason although it's obvious that absolutely no one on this forum has every watched a single Mönchengladbach game for full 90 minutes.

When Thiago was fit, Tito gave him 1200 minutes in the second half of the season. Pep gave him 800 minutes. Despite 3-4-3. Fabregas had a stinker of a second half yet it was Fabregas who started against Leverkusen, Milan and Chelsea in the knockout stages. Thiago only played the Camp Nou league Clasico because Pep had to rest Fabregas and Alexis 3 days before the Chelsea return leg and the Clasico was the less important game because even with a victory Barca would have had less points than Madrid with only 3 or 4 games remaining (which Madrid went on to win anyway). Otherwise Fabregas was his prefered player in big games as evident in his minutes in the CL knockout stages. Thiago didn't play more and Thiago didn't play more big games under Pep.

But of course, Thiago left b.c Tito didn't trust in him :VdB: in the way that Pep did.

This myth is being debunked little by little everyday.
