Their starting eleven would have Mendy and Sterling.

Be as well counting the add ons for Coutinho, Dembele as well.

No Iniesta.

Mendy would without doubt be their starting left back.

Danilo is arguably third choice for that position.

Sterling would not be in place of Silva who would play in midfield and Sterling wide.

Gundogan is not a starter for them.

It doesn't really matter. He clearly doesn't walk the league because of spendings on Danilo, Gündogan, Bernardo Silva, Mendy and all the other duds and injured players they've wasted money on who didn't contribute. His starting XI was already there when he arrived except Sané, Stones, Walker and Ederson and that's reasonable with Hart who didn't fit Pep's style at all, aging fullbacks and a perma-injured Kompany.

Well, the lineups are comparing squad values.

Coutinho and Dembele are not the reason we are walking the league either - and that's what supposedly Guardiola was talking about and got us to this conversation.

Pep is getting slaughtered for it.

Clear as day he is trying to play the martyr and make a point.

Could easily have called up some young player to sit on bench.

I think the press is making a bigger deal out of it than he is himself. He was asked repeatedly why he only had six subs at the bench instead of the full seven.

What's the point of adding another youth player if he cannot play? To fill up numbers?

To give them experience of the first team and as a reward for a youngster who has been doing well.

Teams do it all the time in these situations.

Pep is playing the martyr.

But but he's a genius.

Well, I think he is a talented coach, but also that he is one of many, but 99% of the coaches as talented as him, will never get the possibilities he has had during his career. Fact he was placed in charge of quite possibly the most talented La Masia generation with Barca B and then Barcelona, with so many absolutely brilliant players peaking at the same time, thats once in a lifetime opportunity. It was he, who got that chance, no one else had it. Fact that he took the chance and won many trophies shows that he is a good coach, but there will always be doubts about what he can actually do without massive talent and/or massive amount of spending budget.
