Pep Guardiola

Gotta wonder how long he stays at City before he either burns out or decides it's simply time to move on. One more season? Two? Three seasons?

Each year he stays at city I lose a bit of respect for him. What's he really done that's so exceptional since leaving us? IF he wins the UCL it's nothing other than exactly what should be expected after the squad he walked into, the money he's spent and the pandemic financially hampering other teams and not his. Also the declines of Messi/Ronaldo. Our and Real's inability to spend money on good signings. He has to win this final or he's been a failure at City.

Pep never stayed at either of his previous clubs for more than four seasons.

However, if he sees out the remainder of his current Manchester City deal, he would be there for seven seasons.

He’s changed the way the Premiership play football. He’s changed the way players from school boys up, see how football can be played, and try to emulate it. He has a means to explore his football theories and put it into practice. He is at the top in the toughest league of professional football. He is the coach of the flagship team of City Group that have teams in 10 global leagues.

Pep”The club give me everything I need to be happy. Not just the players, the managers deserve to be happy. Here I have everything… except the weather, we're in May and in cold jackets."

"Except for that, it's a perfect club to be at. Support from the hierarchy, good players, good environment, people working for the same intentions: that's why I'm comfortable.”

"If we win, I can stay. You know for the managers the contract is just a piece of paper. If you don't win you'll be sacked.”

"It's a challenge," he said. "If the players don't accept that they can do better it's impossible. When one player improves it is because he wants to be improved.”

"If he doesn't, you can do whatever you want. The football belongs to them. Everything that happens starts from here [he points to his head] and you are open-minded and you say that they are just good football players who can be much, much better. In that moment we will be good."

But lose the final, Pep is human, things can rapidly change.

In January “I don’t know, when I arrived here I didn’t expect to be seven years. I don’t know what is going to happen. It depends on the results to be honest.
If we have success and we are happy, why not? If we don’t have success, we will be less happy and I think we are going to change. It’s simple.

In COVID last season City transfer balance of a spend of 95 million pounds. Man Utd were 58 million. Chelsea 170 million. So City’s is comparable. They had a game cancelled due to a COVID outbreak at City and several first team players contracted COVID.

Peps got every thing he wants at City. Huge money and freedom. He would probably go into coaching and youth development for the City Group system of clubs ahead of returning to Barcelona too. He wants to be their Cryuff.

In many ways Pep is like Joe Rogan. Bald, rich, talks aload of shit in front of the camera and has access to the finest drugs known to man.

You are being unfair. I used to think the same, but not anymore.

He’s changed the way city plays not the premier league. That would probably belong to Klopp who’s pressing tactics are being fostered by the elite clubs in prem and clubs in general throughout the world.

Wenger was playing free flowing attacking football in the premier long before pep had even coached a club. Rodgers did it in the prem with significantly weaker players.

That net spend is only so favourable due to Chelsea having transfer bans the 2 windows before so were spending for multiple transfer windows so it doesn't really paint a fair picture. If we don't include Chelsea then City would have a net spend 60% higher than Man United who finished 2nd. How's that remotely fair? City's net spend also only looks so good due to being able to sell Sane who they previously bought for 55m.

City have the highest net spend since Guardiola has been the manager. Even though he walked into a squad with nailed on starters who were already world class.

Whenever Pep sees an issue in the squad he doesn't make do he goes to the board and demands the signing of a player that usually costs upwards of 45m. Absolute genius isn't he.

Which bit though? must be said if he doesn't win the UCL then how can he be considered a success there? Sure it was great football, people will look back on it fondly (which is success in some way) but I'm talking success in trophy cabinet and winning the UCL is effectively then only true measure of success when you are seen as the best manager in the world and also spend more than every other team.

+1

An even with the amount of money he spent he didnt even dominate the UCL. Had problems against Dortmund and im sure that PSG would have won with Mbappe.

3 league titles out of 5 and most likely a CL. That is impressive if you ask me. But then again, it is really pointless to keep the discussion if you truly believe that Pep has not been successful with City. We just have a different understanding of what success is at this point, and that is okay.

3 premier leagues, 1 FA Cup, 4 league cups which obviously includes a domestic treble. If he beats Chelsea Saturday that of course is another treble season.

He may have spent money, but who doesn’t in the premier league. They’ve got 700 goals in 288 games under him including 100 more premier league goals than any other team in that time. It’s gonna be a case of people waxing lyrical about him when he retires but can’t give him the respect he deserves whilst he’s still managing.
