Pep Guardiola

3 league titles out of 5 and most likely a CL. That is impressive if you ask me. But then again, it is really pointless to keep the discussion if you truly believe that Pep has not been successful with City. We just have a different understanding of what success is at this point, and that is okay.

Yeah fair enough. I just think he has to win the UCL to start to be considered a success there. Otherwise he's merely achieving what he should be achieving.

what sets guardiola apart from other managers is the fact that he wins and does it following his philosophy. that philosophy being an attacking one makes it all the better.

he also has a track record of improving players and giving chances to youngsters.

He?s changed the way city plays not the premier league. That would probably belong to Klopp who?s pressing tactics are being fostered by the elite clubs in prem and clubs in general throughout the world.

Wenger was playing free flowing attacking football in the premier long before pep had even coached a club. Rodgers did it in the prem with significantly weaker players.

That net spend is only so favourable due to Chelsea having transfer bans the 2 windows before so were spending for multiple transfer windows so it doesn't really paint a fair picture. If we don't include Chelsea then City would have a net spend 60% higher than Man United who finished 2nd. How's that remotely fair? City's net spend also only looks so good due to being able to sell Sane who they previously bought for 55m.

City have the highest net spend since Guardiola has been the manager. Even though he walked into a squad with nailed on starters who were already world class.

Whenever Pep sees an issue in the squad he doesn't make do he goes to the board and demands the signing of a player that usually costs upwards of 45m. Absolute genius isn't he.

Teams were pressing in the Premiership before Klopp set foot. Klopp has been an excellent manager for Liverpool. Klopp introduced his gegenpressing having studied Peps Barca. That though has not become transformational in the Premiership. Peps City has.
Wengers invincibles were just that. Though his biggest influence on other teams was they noticed the diet by Arsenal players at England call ups. Again diet was noticed not style of play.( Gary Neville comment on diet).
Rogers is a first class manager. Liverpool, Celtic and Leicester. But he has not transformed the division. Pep has.

When Liverpool outbid City for VD, it is clear all teams in EPL spend money. City are no different but actually have a lower spending cap on the value of a player. It is funny when City are singled out in the last 12 months for spending, while in reality if it is 30, 50 70, 100 or 170 million all clubs are doing it.

City high spend overall is playing catch up for decades of non investment. Their spending is not debt.

Over the past 10 years, City's net spend (total spent on players minus the total fees received for outgoing transfers) on players stands at 867.28m, the highest in the Premier League during that period, with Manchester United second at 814.75m. A small difference when you think City were playing catch up. Biggest expense to date on a player 64m.

Yes Pep is a genius. I am delighted he is at City. When the day comes and he moves on, I will be thankful that he came to City. City play wonderful football. Coaches like Cruyff and Pep removed the Italian defensive man marking system as the way to play football.

Since 2008, 44 academy graduates have progressed to City's first team and although the club has won just one FA Youth Cup in the past 10 years, they have been the losing finalists four times: three of those defeats came against Chelsea. This season, City won the Premier League U23 and U18 titles.

Pep Guardiola has no intention to leave Manchester City. Even if he?ll win the Champions League on Saturday, Pep is staying at Man City - he?s already planning for new signings together with Citizens board. 🔵 #MCFC #ManCity

These things are great and worthy of applause. He's a brilliant manager and has achieved lots. Until he wins the UCL his time at city can't be considered a success. That's all my point really is. A lot easier to win with whatever your philosophy is when you're given unlimited signings to achieve this tbf

Only chance I see is if he wins back-to-back CLs and thinks, in 2022, that he reached the ceiling at City.
In anycase, less than 1% chance

Barca legend who's the biggest manager in the game and doesn't want to have anything to do with Barca anymore. What the hell is wrong with him? With Laporta in charge and Guardiola as a manager, we can dominate football again.

Make it happen in 2 years or fans are going to hold it against him. OK, I understand he hated working with that crap board let by those crooks. But now that excuse is no longer valid as the president loves him and would give him a lot of power. Just come back after 2 years with City and rebuild this team.

This man is annoying as hell. It's almost as if he used us as a stepping stone for his manager career.

Who knows....perhaps he does return to Barca in one or two years. When his City project is finished and his legacy is cemented forever, and none of the players he coached during his last stint are there anymore.

Probably more likely to return as the Director of La Masia or something like that though.

Possibly, and absolutely nothing wrong in that.
And tbh, his Barca legacy can't be bigger, why risk it?

Because that's what club legends do. Isn't this supposed to mean that there is a strong sentimental connection with the cub? I don't see it when I look at Pep the manager. He seems to me that it's all about him and nothing else.

Again, this is totally fine from any logical point of view. But not from a sentimental point of view, and club legends are supposed to care about this a lot.
