Having said that pep is finished
Your wife does not want to live in bum ass Manchester

It's time to retire
But that is the cost of chasing greatness

200m+ spent in one transfer window in the middle of the season.
No other club in the world can do this apart from PSG.

Love Pep for what he did for us, but it's really tough to have any sympathy for him or Man City these days.

In his defence, he has been penny pinching for the last 5 years when they won 4 in a row. People won't want to hear it but literally half the teams in the EPL have a higher net spend then City in the last 5 years. That's right, they are 11th for net spend in the EPL in the last 5 years.

All they are doing is replenishing the squad in one go, rather than spreading out the 200m over the last 5 years, which is what they should have done. And this is the single biggest reason they are having the season they are having.

It's a miracle they managed to get that 4th in a row when you consider that his first xi for those 4 years was pretty much the same core of players. They made one last huge effort to get the 4th. The downside being that they would inevitably fall off a cliff, which is what is happening now.

Would love him more if he spent 25% of that on a de jong, since he has about 25% the talent of nico and we would get that money straight.

But maybe he thinks de jong doesn't even have 25% the talent, he's crazy for that lol.

Aye just like you think Gavi is unique and there will be a La Masia player better than Pedri through soon.

Can fair spot a player.

Pep has tried to sign FDJ... never tried for Gavi.

Simples.

I think these signings are for next season. Pep aims for next cycle.

This season is done for them.

People usually say Pep have great squad depth. It is not true. He just trains his players to play in many roles. His squad depth is acutally not great. And now this season is the result of it after multiple years.

As @vegitot said they're building for the future. Pep got everything he could out of the old core, it was too optimistic to expect he would get another season of productions out of those old legs. Season got out of their hands early so January TW looked like panic signings from the outside but I think those were all strategic long term moves planned for the summer they just moved 6 months ahead. Probably had to pay bit more signing them mid-season but not like they care about that.

Expect another 200m+ investment in summer. Wouldn't be surprised if they'd go for Wirtz to replace KDB and that Juve RB/LB (Cambiasso) who they were linked to this window would come in to replace Walker. Ederson considered a move to Saudi a few times already and with just a year left on contract will probably cash on him. I've seen them linked to Diogo Costa as his replacement.

With these signings, players who joined last month (who will have 6-month adaptation period behind them) and Rodri (Oscar Bobb as well) returning from injury they will be a very different looking team. They desperately needed some fresh blood and new motivation in a team full of players who have won everything and are getting old and/or have problems staying fit.

City can squeeze out FFP moves to Saudi that we can only dream of with their connections and deals linked to other deals.

Completely different ball game to us, so what they spend doesn't even matter.

I don't like it, but it's the world we live in.

The centrebacks they got are just great investments. Arsenal wanted Uzbek and Madrid wanted Reis, so they got there early to seal the deals.

Marmoush was on Liverpool agenda so likewise.

Only one who is a bit desperate and may flatter to perform is Nico. But let's see.

Then there is still Echevierri who will probably end a Kubo type Liga player but still.

People talk or Pep being figured out, but it's mostly external matters of him effecting his work more than anything. This team won the league with 92 points last season, and won the CL the year before.

Yet a few months later he has been figured out

Yeah City will definitely sell for a lot without losing too much quality.

Summer 2024 and January 2025 combined, they've made a net loss of 100m. Not that much really, even if they went hard in January.

I'm pretty sure it was all part of the plan, to go into the season without investing too much, see how the squad fares and then have cash reserves to spend in January.
