But then they did sign likes of Dest, Tricano etc... so maybe the scouting is poor, ignoring important aspects. Can't help but think we overvalue fancy technique at the cost of more important things such as mentality, attitude, fight and determination.

The current situation they wont spend on future type players.

In the past.. for every Trincao and Dest there is a Pedri/Araujo. Can be hit or miss.

Still, we seem to be getting them wrong more often than other clubs, at least compared to Bayern, and Madrid, other similarly-funded clubs.

Brighton are a good side.

Likes of Caciedo will get a big move this summer.

Absolute class in midfield for them.

As soon as they signed him hey expected to get 80m+ for him within couple years. Quality was clear immediately.

Brilliant player, he caught my eye at U20 WC in 2019 when Ecuador finished 3rd. They have a good generation with likes of Caicedo, Sarmiento (also at Brighton), Hincapie (Leverkusen) and Leonardo Campana (he didn't really make it in Europe so far though). I've said it before Barca should scout South American countries outside of Brazil (where most players are overhyped and expensive) and Argentina. Ecuador and Uruguay have produced some talented players recently.

In our current state finding and signing players like Caicedo for cheap before Brightons of this world get their hands on them and their value explodes is absolutely needed. We could really use a few more signings like Araujo or Pedri.

What players have Real signed for that type of fee?

Real are spending bigger on talents chased by near enough all the top clubs.

Valverde is one though. Cant think of many more.

The club needs to lose its arrogance, and we'll get it right more often than wrong.

For the era of superstar driven teams, with much less advanced tactics/management and importance of fitness, pressing etc., Barcelona were the biggest attraction in the world along with RM.

That is no longer the case, and more attention must be given to other attributes that aren't the "Barca way". Otherwise, even average teams from Bundesliga will keep giving Bayern a game while we get absolutely demolished.

The recent beatdowns by Bayern are basically an extreme example of Barca's inability to adjust to modern football.

Need to do better in scouting and signings. So many good players that don't cost an arm and a leg and would improve us.

The fact these players improve immensely is due to them playing for clubs with far less pressure compared to Barca. At Barca every signing is expected to fill the shoes of Iniesta and Xavi, sounds like a curse. Players with determination can fight this, softies like Andre Gomes can't.

And they have 9 players that didn’t have a whiff at it. Some even never played CL.

Ah yes Eriksen made it to a final.

Yeah if wining CL multiple times makes those x2 United players top of the tree then what does it make.. MATS, Roberto, Christensen, Alba, Alonso, Busi and Lewa? All of whom have won it in past.

Can add Kounde with a couple of Europa Leagues? Then amongst squad have domestic champions of Serie A, La Liga, Bundesliga, EPL etc.

FDJ hasnt won a major league but has been in semis of CL in a campaign he was voted best mid. Pedri hasnt won yet but has been best mid in a Euros and Golden Boy. Gavi has been voted a Golden Boy. Dembele and Kounde got to WC final where Dembele was shite but still played well in that tournament. Araujo not any of those accolades but can see the leader type he is and is a starter for Uraguay.

Not sure where that argument begins and ends but there is a lot more experience of top level football in that Barca squad than is made on. Even if some part their best.. that is the argument for squads being medal count. Need to compare that.

Alba has won countless trophies and been important part in pretty much all of them but you would put Shaw over him.

Yes, Alba would help if he wasn't so washed up and nearly 34. All of our veterans have been disappointing in their late career.

I'm not saying Shaw is a top class player. I'm saying he's better than a washed up Alba and a kid with barely 20 games for the first team that last year played in the 3rd division of Spain.

It is likely Balde is going to become a better player than Shaw is, but it will still take 2 years at minimum to gain some experience.

Some of those players are washed up but also Christensen and Lewa have won CL more recently than either of Varane or Casimero despite not having multiple wins.

Both would get in a hypothetical Barca/United 11 though.

Alba was great last season and to be quite honest has long been the best performing amigo, but people have something against him because he cried at half time Vs Liverpool.

He is a bitch but that doesn't make him a bad player, tbqh he is still one of the best offensive fullbacks out there.

Would definitely take him over Shaw or at most you can say they are similar ability but don't think Shaw is much better than him at all even if you hate Alba.
