Varane was not at an 'elite' level or at his best in last couple seasons at Real or first at Man Utd.

ETH has helped him improve again... is he 'elite' and one of best CBs going? Not sure. Needs to play well for longer. But he has imroved under ETH compared to previous seasons.

Improvement is what it is all about with the players at hand.

Varane also started very young at top level and had knee issues.. which many put his 'decline' down to.

Fact is he was not 'elite' for years before this seaosn and not 100% sure he is not but is improved.

To make out ETH walked into a squad with elite CBs like Varane performing at top level is either clueless or deluded.

Real won another CL season he left.

As much as I don't rate SAF's European/big game tactics (compared to other all time greats), the way he built 3 great sides over 25 some years at the same club is an insane achievement.
