To be fair, I don't feel this team can survive in an open game against Barca. Verratti missing is a huge blow and Luiz's absence means VdW is a must and I don't quite rate him. Also, no Ibra means less threat on set pieces. We should be fine if we play our cards right and I'm very convinced about achieving a positive result in Paris.
The first group stage result tells a very different story, they had no Ibra back then

I'd say that particular goal is way more on us and our lack of defending than Ibra being incredible. Some epic amounts of ballwatching going on there, he's basically allowed to stand by himself undisturbed 10m away from goal with no one marking him, and they had more than enough time to do it as well before Lucas crossed the ball (a longer clip would have shown this better). I remember being at a loss for words after seing that goal live.

Would not happen right now with how awesome our defence has become.

But above all that, I like watching good games.

That's why I dislike it when a club is not at its best. Because it won't be what I want: the best football said team can provide (without injuries for example).

Thats exactly how I feel, except I stick to one club in this respect :) which is barça, of course. I don't have the time nor will to watch another club. I'm always amazed at the number of people who seem to have a solid opinion on half a hundred players . I don't particularly care how well RM is doing, can't say I give too much of a fuck about them. I feel very much neutral in my dislike of the club and some of their players.

I have zero shame in saying I became a barca "fan" exclusively because of the quality of their football. I was already aware of the history, and while i respect it a lot it has no bearing at all on my enjoying the games. I do feel, like you do to an extent I think, the wish for barca to win even if they play bad. But above all, I want barça to play well.

AJAuxerre is my "die-hard" club. I supported them fervently before Guy Roux and the entire historic board left and were replaced by incompetents/crooks.
Was there at the Stade de France when we won the french cup against you insects. The entire stadium was chanting "auxerre, auxerre, on t'encule" but its PSG who got fucked in the end :D
Maybe you were there too?
It was the Ronnie final.

True of course but we all know what Ibra is capable of... He might suddenly hit the ball in his teakwondo style any time

I feel deflated. Too many injuries/suspensions for me to even care about the UCL anymore. Had we gotten a fair shake from the draw I'd feel a lot more optimistic, but for whatever reason someone at UEFA loves watching Barca/Paris matches so we're forever forced into ties with the best club in the world.

It's frustrating.

Edit: Also wouldn't be as much of a problem if Aurier wasn't suspended 3 UCL games for cursing. He could play RB with Marco at CB, but that'd be too seamless a transition.

PSG are going to another crucial Champions League play off without a few of their most important players. But this time they are playing us, which is great.

Is Lucas at least gonna be back for them? We've played them a handful of times in the last few years and he is the one player we have not been able to deal with.

It's not entirely impossible that he suddenly scores a hattrick in the Camp Nou game. But as history has shown his impact in big matches (especially against us) is very little, so I'd be fairly comfortable with him playing. They'll miss Verratti and even Luiz way more than Ibrahimovic.

I like football.

I like beautiful football.

I am not fond of RM for various reasons. Their history for example or how Juan Carlos played a part in erasing a part of their debt.

So I have clubs I prefer. But above all that, I like watching good games.

That's why I dislike it when a club is not at its best. Because it won't be what I want: the best football said team can provide (without injuries for example).

I dislike thinking I should just stick to one or two clubs. From my point of view, those that are die hard fans (like many PSG fans i described above) lose somewhere in their way what it is to enjoy football. They get lost in fans wars. They only look at the results. At what they want whatever the means. All is about their preferred club and how said club has to win.

And when I see that, I wonder, "do they actually like football?"

Which leads to liking Barca a lot. If you like football like me, watching players like Messi is a treat.

You've pretty much described me there, and I particularly agree with your statement about diehard fans sometimes losing the meaning of enjoying football. They can get consumed by the emotional investment. It's kinda parallel to the two-party political system in the US, where it sometimes becomes more about 'supporting the team', even though you might not agree with a lot of the policies of said party. Because people become emotionally invested, either due to a specific candidate or history of the party.

+1

To everyone, it was funny when people (me included) made some light jokes, but now it isn't funny anymore. It's even less funny as it seems to annoy zanela more and more. When it happens, then it's time to stop joking around.

Dude, she's obviously trolling, and you just fell for it too

Out of those 4, possibly 5 absences (if Motta is included) the biggest miss will be that of Verratti IMO.

Ibra has hardly ever shinned in the knockout stages of the CL or against Barça for that matter. Every time that I have seen PSG play they have been better without Ibra. The game against Chelsea away was a good indication.

Luiz is for sure a miss but you can question how big that miss will be when you have Silva and Marquinhos. VdW might not be the greatest player but I am not sure if he is that much worse than Marquinhos on the right back.

Aurier would not be taken into consideration for the starting 11 if everyone was fit. So that leaves us with Motta who I believe will be ready for the game.

Of course those are all significant absences but it could have been worse and PSG are by no means without chances of making an upset in the first leg. It would not surprise me if they did. Teams that face adversity often give more of themselves as they have something to prove.

Wonder how true the rumours of discord between Cavani & Blanc, as well...Ibra's absence becomes more significant if even Cavani is not on the same page with his teammates

It's definitely a big advantage for Barcelona but Barcelona will still have to take advantage & put the tie to bed in the 1st leg, IMO

Hopefully we do. Will give us opportunity to rest some players in the second leg.

Blanc and Canavi have had a contentious relationship because the latter was recruited to be a ST, but has been forced to the wing.
