Quique Setien

For those who talk about La Liga's being handed to EV, well, there probably is a big element of RM weakness to it. But first EV season he really did one thing for Barcelona - he stopped you conceding and playing banter defense. Until that one fixture. He did refocus the team towards a certain goal. Which came at a price of entertainment and progress. But it's yet to be seen how the team performs when they're not as conservative as they were. Remember, they're still quite shit at it as a unit for the most part and it's really difficult to expect any manager to hide Busquets and Pique weaknesses.

Actually much of the defensive 'stability' was down to luck and Umtiti playing like a top 3 CB in the world, arguably the best one from Sept - Roma.

Lenglet is soft/bench material. Pique only shows up for big games and never had pace. I'm currently better than this shell of Umtiti

Hi, its me..
hope he does well, but i think it will be a bit of a wake up call for everyone who thought valverde was the problem

He's gonna need some time to judge the players. So don't be surprised if we see some bad choices in the starting line-up. Let's hope until the Napoli game he will sketch a clear first 11.

Getting rid of valverde should have meant moving past mediocrity, this is a lateral move maybe a very slight upgrade with more attractive football.

Barca needed a top coach with the power to tell older players what to do and a guy the youngsters would look up to

There's a great way to hide Busquets and Pique's weaknesses: bench them.

Busquets played the long game by giving Setien a signed shirt with a love note to make sure it doesn't happen further down the road.

Whatever you call it, Barcelona had a better defensive season. He did have some impact which did happen intrinsically just by EV employing that tactics he would at a mid-table side in many situations. He was even admired for cutting through the cloudy ambitions media tried to input on that team. It's how his brand got built really. But then Roma happened which cast doubt on where his limit actually is. That could have gotten chalked up to a one game really going wrong. Which it did. But then a repeat and 2.0 at Anfield is inexcusable, which left 99% of the world wondering why he is still in the job. Still, I still think he did some things right. Not many of them. And not necessarily that he meant them. But sometimes being passive works well for a team.

If he appoints an assistant that is great defensive coach, I think he will do very well.

And at least I hope he can motivate our players. That's what we lack the most.

Well at least the players will be in the spotlight without the excuse of valverde to hide behind. Some of the wasters in the squad will be exposed and the forum regulars will have no answers

Not like it was ever happening under Valverde

You mean Valverde's favorites? Busquets, Rakitic, etc?

Honestly, looking at our schedule, if we find a way to snatch a win on Mestalla, we have some pretty good fixtures coming up. We can tie together 5-6 wins until the Clasico.

Quite a few accessible games on Camp Nou vs medium to low level sides. Perfect to build confidence.

he can do well and play exciting football.

I will wait to see how will we play an exciting football with a key player who doesn't move off the ball, with Suarez who can't play a simple pass, with Griezz who can't run or dribble, with Dembele who doesn't understand anything about football, Raki who can't play a simple pass, Busi who can't run, Vidal who also can't play a simple pass, Semedo who has never made a pass in the attacking half, Alba who is braindead etc.

The most likely scenario is that we will play like in the 2nd half of Tata's season or like on worst nights under Ernie.

You people are really overrating our players and forgetting how old, mentally and physically drained they are and that they lost motivation in 2011 or in 2015.

Some were of the opinion that the players are fine and it was just a manager problem, I think it was a manager AND player problem

Even pep couldn’t win cl with this current team

We should just close down shop then. Let's do that.

Funny how you're in sheer agony before Setien has even coached a ball. He might be good. He might be bad. I already know he won't be magic. My expectation is CL SF exit (unless we get Pool QFs) and LL.

It's clear you prefer the Juve, Atletico styles of football so you should save yourself the essays at Barca and enjoy losing finals like those 2 do.
