saga continues. After losing to sevilla he started doubting himself, eventually to be knocked out by OM 5-2 on aggregate in round of 16 of EL, season after where pattern was born.
Then he signed for Barcelona where in first season was in charge against mighty roma in qf of cl with astonishing display at stadio olimpico. World was introduced to the famous squat of his. He was on the verge of being unbeatable that season, but with two games left, he said fuck it, we are giving messi a rest. Mighty levante put 5 past his team so the record still hangs on.
Ev didnt want the famous pattern to end, being KO from round of 16, quarter finals and he completed the hattrick with semi final KO! In the similar manner as the previous one, world was yet again forced to see the famous squat of his.

Messi a rest? National team friendlies were scheduled and Terry Mina had the worst performance out of any CB ever. We still scored 4 past them? Valverde can be blamed for alot of things the Levant defeat isn't one of them.

I'm not, beating prime MSN 4-0 to secure their first trophy since 1984 isn't beautiful football to some ppl. Bilbao were known for playing attacking football with a high press favouring youth development under Valverde :)

Ernesto Valverde returned for a second spell as manager, and he signed or brought through several new players as Athletic came fourth in the league, meaning a UEFA Champions League campaign. Ander Herrera transferred to Manchester United for ?36 million deal at the end of the season.[16][17]

Athletic had a triumphant first full-capacity match in the new San Mam?s as they defeated Napoli to qualify for the Champions League group stage,[18] however they could only finish 3rd in the group.[19] Athletic reached the 2015 Copa del Rey Final, but once again lost to Barcelona, 3?1.[20]

In the first leg of the 2015 Supercopa de Espa?a at San Mam?s, Athletic defeated Barcelona 4?0, with Aritz Aduriz scoring a hat-trick. In the return leg at Camp Nou, Athletic hung on with a 1?1 draw to win their first trophy since 1984.[21][22] Aduriz finished with 36 goals in all competitions. Athletic advanced to the quarter-finals in the Europa League where they were only defeated on penalties by the holders and eventual repeat winners Sevilla FC.

We lost 4-0 because it was the first game back after pre season, the same as when we lost 5-1 on aggregate to Madrid in the same fixture (with Valverde). Under no circumstances do we lose those games by that margin other than it being the first game back after pre season.

It feels like ages since Valverde left and we still play like shit... That fucker broke this team...

I think people forgot how bad we looked under Valverde. The games were like watching paint dry. We are playing better football, the players are in better shape now. Things look much better.

Oh surely. Letting 5 goals in from levante is not managers fault.

Yea, Spanish Supercup is a glorified friendly seen as part of preseason. Was a bit more during Mou's time at Madrid since the hatred between the teams was so big back then.

Reports last few days that Setien came in with a revolution in mind.... and it took 2/3 weeks to realise not possible with these players and has more or less settle back into the formation and style of Valverde.

Exactly how it looks on the pitch to be fair.

Not as bad as EV just before he left but the normal EV tactics of way team is set out looks practically the same.

Real last night looked far ahead of Barca in terms of energy and going forward as a unit. Barca still look like pass slow and safely for most part until gets to Messi or others have moments of brilliance.

Messidepencia is almost inevitable due to the way he plays and team being filled with other slow, older players.

Barca are not going to be exciting to watch as a drilled, energetic unit until they are all gone. Have to be happy withing Messis individual genius on the ball for now.

I don't think we are as bad to watch as under Valverde, but yeah, revolution is not possible until the oldies, especially Messi, are gone.

In other words, we control the game better and pass better than under EV, but the improvement is not as big as to drastically change how we look. Still, had we not sacked Valverde, we would've been nearly out of the title fight by now the way things were going.

Setien dropped points EV would have gotten. Only reason we top is coz RM suck

The play is not much different at all really.

Last games v Leganes was a prime EV slow, plodding football opened up by individuals.

The tactical set up is more or less identical under EV before things got really bad towards the end.

Lol. Your information is lacking some updates. About 8 months of updates or so.

RM upped their game compared with the first half of the season, and will probably end with more than 80 points. We only top the league because we also average more points per game than under EV this season.

We played very well in the first half of the season, especially since the Mallorca game and did OK before that despite 20+ injuries. There's no real difference between how we play now vs how we played when most players were fit in the rest of 19/20.

Setien has Messi? Ev had no Messi or an unfit Messi... You can't compare previous seasons. Madrid have reinforced and so have we with FDJ, Griezmann etc
