It took a bit for Rakitic to get going in his first season.

I remember people just crapping on him during the 1st half of the season because he wasn't creative enough and Cesc was having a strong start to the season and people were wondering if we massively fucked up getting rid of him for Rakitic.

I think it was a bit of a period of adaptation for Lucho. He was a more intense manager compared with Tata and Tito. The whole team took a few months to get going and Suarez was with that ban and all, but once we caught a bit of form we never stopped until 1 year later.

MSN were the catalyst with their on fire period, but tbh, the whole team stepped up big time and played amazing football. In retrospect, that was the last period where we were the best team in the world. 2015-2016.

From then it was a steady but sure decline.

Lucho gave us the greatest year of football in the club's history (and probably any club's history), results wise:

We played 13 big games in 2015:

Real Madrid: Beat them 2-1 and 4-0
Bayern Munich: Beat them 3-0 and were leading 2-1 at Allianz until Suarez was subbed off
Juventus: Beat them 3-1
Atletico Madrid: Beat them 3-1, 1-0, 3-2, 1-0
PSG: Beat them 3-1, 2-0
Man City: Beat them 2-1, 1-0

12 W out of 13 big games, home or away. That one loss v Bayern came in garbage time without Suarez. No doubt we win that game too if MSN is in place.

Rakitic was great that season. Workhorse, discipline, intensity, plus very important goals. Allowed Alves to do his thing on the right with Messi without being as exposed defensively.

Great debut season for him. Rarely seen better first seasons than Rakitic in 14-15.

People forget how good rakitic was that season. He worked so hard covering for Messi and helping Dani alves defensively. As it wasn't his natural game, working that hard meant his legs were gone by the end of 15/16 season. It's one of the reasons I've been saying we needed a player in the Kante mould for that position for the past couple of years

Impressive. Though there was still a feeling that it was an old team + Rakitic's legs + MSN on peak form. So it couldn't have lasted more than 1-2 seasons. I still think we messed up in 2016. We could've won the CL that year with a bit more focus. 2nd treble in a row, epic shit.

The international break (and WC qualifiers) was part of our undoing. We were on a ~40 game unbeaten streak going into April and when we came back, we suddenly couldn't win a game and MSN hit the wall.

The other undoing was the transfer ban. We were limited to a washed up Turan and Aleix Vidal as our reinforcements to an aging squad.

After that, it's been a systematic decline.

Yea. Pretty much it. But it was also mental blockage a bit, that came totally at the wrong time. A shame we didn't get the 3rd on Camp Nou when Atletico were barely surviving with 10 men. 3-1 and I think we go through.

Messi and Neymar hit the wall harder than Suarez too. Both of them couldn't score for shit past April. Suarez carried us to the LL (by 1 point) against Zizou's black magic with 58 goals that season, and like 14 goals in his last 6 LL games.

Suarez was also the one who scored 2 times v AM.

Yes. Luchos first season was magical. That team was lethal and what a joy to watch. The best Barca.

Yes. The transfer bam happened at the worst possible moment and then those signings didn't help anything.

Killed our season. No backups. Old bodies tired.

Get Xavi in today, the placeboo effect could actually win us CL, with this guy we have 0% chance, with Xavi we might go up to 15% actually.
