Rafinha Alcantara

I get your point, it's sad to see one of our guys go, especially since he's been working very hard... However, he's not going to become a starter anytime soon, so if we can fetch something north of 35 million I would give it a long hard thought...

The problem is I don't trust the board to spend 35M in a better fit for us.

Rafinha has a good role to play in a 3-4-3. However, if we go back to 4-3-3 it wouldn't be the end of the world if we sold him.

Don't think that there is a club that would pay 35M for Rafinha. If one pays 25M we should be happy and take the money. If it's less, forget it.

I like the guy, don't want to see him go really! There r not many players of his quality out there who d be happy to be on Barca bench as permanent substitute! Moreover, the guy understands the way Barca play. He s a great sub IMHO! Sell Gomes n Arda instead!

You are right.
We don't know what is the board planning longterm.

If we buy Bellerin and go back to 433, we will surely play:
Iniesta-Rakitic-Busi again.
Gomes will probably stay at least one more season.
Denis also.
Roberto will be a Cm too.
Alena is knocking at our doors.
We might buy someone like Verratti.
Arda might be loaned or sold.

So, if we'll go back to 433, we will have too many midfielders surely in the next season.

On the other hand, I would keep him rather than Gomes, Denis and Arda.
Rafinha was awesome in 343 later and turned to be a much better fit than midfielders bought in the last 2 years.

Don't think that there is a club that would pay 35M for Rafinha. If one pays 25M we should be happy and take the money. If it's less, forget it.

I also think that no one would pay even 20M for him.
He doesn't have any real strengths.
He is good in everything, but not world class in any aspect.
Plus, he could end as one of those guys who is very good in one club but meh in all other clubs.

So, imo, we could sell him only in some 10-15M deal.

Further, if Rafinha is considering leaving then stories about Thiago returning here are just a lie.
If there is a chance that Thiago will return, Rafinha would be happy and he surely wouldn't consider leaving.
Rafinha would surely "know" some inside infos from his brother and there is no way that he would consider leaving if there was even the tiniest chance for Thiago to return.

If Rafinha wants to leave, I don't see which club would pay more than 15M for him.
He is not a player for other big teams (Real, Bayern etc).
About smaller teams, I don't think that they have money for him (except some midtable EPL team), plus again, Rafinha don't have any "obvious" strengths and I don't see why a midtable team would splash a fortune on him.

Ideally we sell both as well as Rafinha and Paco for the type of money Real get for their castoffs. We could get 100+ for all if our board wasn't an incompetent disgrace. Then we stock up the midfield with talented players. Won't happen though.

You want us to sell 4 'meh' players with our history of selling players and bring in maybe 2 world class midfielders? Not going to happen, I wish, but no.

Every player has his own price for sure,if a team came with 30M+ for him I think yeah we might do it and spend it wisely while trying to make Denis step up.
This thing happen from time to time,We have already seen Oscar going to China for a lot of money. Jese went for 25M I think and currently I would take Rafinha over him.
But this isn't the normal thing to expect and tbh there is many other players to sell b4 him,Gomes has Mendes and he could get us good portion of what we paid for him,Denis is less than year younger and had many clubs interested last year and he is worse fit despite being more gifted,Arda just need to go tbh.
So 4 players need to go 1st if we are trying to get rid of players, but if it was Rafinha the one to get an offer that is difficult to refuse then yeah

tbf most of the players we sell are old players, one of the reason we went for younger layers is for re-sale value. so let's see if the board is up for it with young players

I like Rafinha workrate rate but he doesnt have the quality to be a Barca CM for me but a useful back up which by sounds of it is not what he wants.

Dont mind if they get a decent fee for him as part of a complete midfield restructure but if he was to be sold on cheap ahead of likes of Arda or Gomes that would be frustrating.

Selling Rafa before Arda or Gomes or even Denis leave would be quite upsetting. He's easily the best of the bunch and has the best work rate.

I see nothing wrong with him staying as a backup which tbh is where I've always seen him.

Let it go.

Halil's Barca career is most likely over unless he does something extraordinary in Las Palmas.

Compare Halil to someone like Ousmane Dembele in Dortmund. The latter is a really special talent with the brains and maturity to succeed too. Same age.

I'm not saying that he's a long term solution, but he's better than Rafinha and has maybe 15-20% possibility of becoming world class one day. I think it's a little unfair to compare him to arguably the best player in the world in that age, by the way.

We cant lose identity, and Rafinha has our identity all over him.

How so? No patience, no vision, tendency to hide away. We're putting a small Brazillian guy in our offensive organization, and the only good thing we can say about him is that he works hard defensively. How little sense does that make? If that's what we're going for, then there are many players that contribute equally little offensively who are faster, stronger and better defensively overall.
