Raheem Sterling

Ronaldo's game at 18/19 was eye catching but not exactly effective. Just seemed like a young Quaresma. Look at Sterling's technique against Man City.

Ronaldo was a better player at 18/19 than Sterling is now and had a higher potential for when things really came together.

People back then were tipping him to be one of the best in the world if not the best.

He was a showpony, at 18/19, tipped for greatness only because he was pretty unique. It was the same buzz at the time surrounding Robinho because his game was so eyecatching with stepovers etc. And Denilson a few years earlier. What you have in a 19 year old Sterling is all that technique, an end product and a great engine too.

At the age Sterling is now Ronaldo was voted in Uefa team of year, Euro 2004 team of tournament and was getting awards as best young player in europe.

People then were speaking of him one day being the best player in the world.

He could be hugely frustrating and was still learning his game in a new country playing in the Champions League etc but he was regarded higher back then than Sterling is now.

And rightly so. The Sterling hype is ridiculous. It is worse here than anywhere I've seen it though to be fair. I think most people in England still rate Barkley higher in the long run.

I've seen Sterling at 18/19 bullying players much bigger and stronger than him, seen him beat three men with ease, score composed finishes and absolute belters. No he won't come anywhere close to Ronaldo's level but the point I was originally trying to make is that relatively he could go on to be world class.

I think Barkely is better but Sterling is a class act.

They both should be starting and Ox too and then Rooney or Sturrige up front.

Personally I would still play Rooney over Sturridge.

And that front four would give England a chance against anyone.

@ammarfcb - I think you're the one showing how racist you are not me.

btw - Barkley is a quarter Nigerian not as if that matters.

We are all mixed race including sub-Saharan Africans, that's a statistical certainty. Though, races don't really exist in a scientific sense anyway. I just thought it was an interesting fact that he has a black father, because I imagine most people would never have guessed by looking at him.

What's that supposed to mean?

just sayin, ashley cole is one of the best left backs ever but here he is only ever mentioned in relation to his girlfriend, u could argue his a cunt but doesn't stop the english love/hype for john terry whose far inferior.

dunno what the statements about origin of races got to do with anything.
