with all due respect to this player and despite never having seen him play, i hope this won't happen. it just would not be fair to xabi alonso...regardless of the very annoying game rafa & l'pool are playing, xabi has done almost everything to make a move possible. his desire is crystal clear and he even handed in a transfer request that was considered impossible and something he would not do in the beginning of this whole saga. he deserves to join more than some belgian kid.

if this is really going to happen the way it's written on the frontpage of MARCA, pérez & co will get "slautered" by the press & probably madridistas as well, because they once again decided to throw out the cash for some foreign player, while turning every cent twice and more for a spaniard. how come a 21y old belgian kid who's won absolutly nothing on europes big stage i take it, is worth around 20m €, while xabi alonso who's won the CL with one of englands "big four" & the EC with spain is worth no more 25m - 30m €???!!!

Chill man, it clearly says he's the backup plan if they can't get Xabi. He's still very much the first option.

well wardo, only 2 names: david villa & benzema!!! happened this summer before. first option means shit. real won't get xabi alonso if they don't pay, which pérez hates to do for spaniards.

i very much hope this is just another MARCA bullshit pulled out of their asses. cause pérez clearly said they'd look for alternatives within the cantera. although i have not the slightest idea which player/s he could have meant. especially not after sending parejo (closest to xabi/granero etc... i can think of) to getafe in order to get liga experience.

We have nobody in the cantera that can fill Xabi's role, it's just bs to try and convince Liverpool that we have alternatives for Xabi. The story about Defour could very well be for the same purpose, although I wouldn't mind to have him at Madrid. But Xabi is the first choice, without a doubt.

And yeh it's about wanting to pay for Xabi, but it's not because we paid big for Cron and Kaka that we have to overpay on everyone. We'll only get him if the price is right, and so it should be.

Seriously underestimating Rafa..............

£25m for a player we bought for 10.5m 5 years ago is a joke, considering what he has won and how he has developed and considering his stature as one of the best midfielders in the world. I only consider £25m PLUS a player. And don't want some shite player like Van der faart or salgado or any of your cast-offs.

when you are a club as big as real madrid you basically always have to pay more if you are interested in a key player of another big club. you just can't expect these clubs to let go of their respective key players on the cheap. if you want a big player from a big club, you have to pay. as simple as that. we all know that, nothing new. the bad taste however is, that once it comes down to this kind of overpayment, the willingsness to do so is far more prensent on foreigners than it is on spaniards.

it's not like rafa is asking for 67m € or 96m €. and i honestly believe, the 40m € would be easily negotiable, if pérez would not insist on 25m - 27m € all the time, with 30m € at max. i'm quite sure, this deal could be done and dusted if madrid come up with 5m € more, which xabi is definitly worth. meeting in the middle at 35m € can't be a matter of overpayment. it's no longer about that, it's all about egos and losing face.
