I don;t even know where to start with this team.. I mean it will be a disaster if they fail to win any silverware after spending millions in the offseason. It will be worse if we win the liga and then win the Champions League in the Bernabéu. Pellegrini will surely be fired, which will be the 7th manager to be fired in 6 seasons :D

wow ... shocking from Real. There goes the dream final of FCB v Real. Don't feel too bad, Gio. I'm sure this just means that Real will be spending money like a drunken Saudi prince this summer.

and just as a side note, people need to understand that if we don't win next week, or in the q-final, or in the semi-final, or in the final ... our CL season will be considered a failure as well. so try not to get too carried away in making fun of Real. As happy as this makes me, the sadness from us not winning this season will overwhelm any happiness at Real's failure today.

wait until after we win the final in May :)

higuain bottles the CL. but he's young. he'll get over that (you're never too old; zlatan: 1 game 1 gol in the CL KO for barca)

but without him to bail them out (he's SO decisive in la liga) they struggled to finish the game off.

kaka has been an astronomically bigger flop than benzema. benzema is 22 ffs and has had much less game time and confidence from the manager and much less love from the fans and media. this has all made it harder for him to adapt. I mean he really hasn't been treated as well. the shirt number he wanted (10) was given to a freakin' DM ahead of him. I mean what the hell is that?!

tbh if I was manu I'd play a front 3 (of sorts) with higuain, CR and benzema. benzema is much more powerful and able to hold the ball than higgers is, and is more inclined to link play as rooney was for united when CR was in his pomp. this will help CR be decisive in big games against organised opponents. and we already know benzema and higuain have a great partnership. so that would be the ideal front 3 for manu.

as long as he persists on trying to squeeze kaka and CR into the same team you won't have a game where they're both excellent. it's no coincidence kaka has only shone in games where CR has been out of the team. they occupied similar spaces and roles in their previous sides, and can't seem to work out how to play together in real. not consistently and effectively anyway. tbh had they not hit it off as mates (and who saw THAT coming?!) there'd be real problems in the dressing room.

it is hilarious tho.

rooney leads united (who everyone predicted would be shit without ronaldo) into the QF's with EASE.

robben leads bayern (who everyone thought was a huge step down after real) into the QF's.

sneijder could lead inter into the QF's.

and lyon in a post-benzema era, put benzema's new club real madrid and all their shiny new toys out of the cup.

although hey, I bet xabi and arbeloa are glad they moved. they've actually managed a step up! :D

That is how it should have been in midfield. I would never trust Guti in an important game. While he makes excellent penetrative passes once in a while, often times he holds the ball far too long in a static positions and kills the play: his decision making is often questionable, he's creative but lacks too much in intelligence.

I'm watching the replay now, and that Higuain miss in the 1st half (rounded the keeper, off the post) reminded me of the last game of the 2006/07 season where Mallorca had a chance to go 0-2 up on RMadrid and someone hit the post ... RMadrid comes back to win the game 3-1 and take the title from us.

the lesson as always ... karrrrrrrrmmmmmmmmmmmmaaaaaaaaaa

It's not the players fault that they play against weak opposition weak every weak, even the Spanish correspondent on the Guardian podcast said all the teams in the Spanish league apart from Barcelona and Real Madrid are rubbish. Real Madrid have some good players like Alonso and Ronaldo who are proven in the EPL, but in the Champions league they are forced to play at much high level then they are used to.

The beast said "EPL has become weaker that small teams are now capable of getting points from the big boys"; well Man U and Arsenal won 4-0 and 5-0 repectively, while Real Madrid are knocked out once again.

So clearly no matter how money they spend Real Madrid will continue to struggle in the Champions league, unless the other teams in the Spanish league can actually make them battle hardened by giving tough games week in week out.

Actually it's a very good point though presented more in an EPL fanboy's perspective... The Spanish and Italian leagues are losing it in CL these due to the downfall of the quality in their respective countries. I mean, come on Inter are undisputed champions of Italy for 5 years now but they still struggle in CL!! There's more to it than just this... It's the 'evergreen top 4' in England that's projecting EPL to be the strongest league in the world. These teams get to play CL and hence the quality opposition every year and they also get to enjoy the financial advantage of qualifying for CL every year, now compare them to say Sevilla or Valencia or Fiorentina!! Even Bayern for example, how did they do in their league this season or the last!? Wolfsburg being the champions get kicked out of group stage while Bayern make it to quarters!?

I believe it has a lot more to do with the English style of football, rather than the EPL being stronger. Sure Inter have been on top for 5 years, but how is the slow, patient, non-energy-expending build-up going to overcome a team playing a high paced, high intensity, high pressure game. Unless you're Barcelona.

Whilst it's not as good as Boludo's "vamos a chorrear" I think Sergio Ramos should take a bow

Isn't that the whole problem with Real Madrid? "We'll win 3-0", not "We can win 3-0". That attitude is partially the reason why they didn't. Also, the photo confirms Sergio Ramos has a face that surely no-one could ever tire of punching.
