It only takes 1, combined with some WC masia midfield talent.

World class on paper or the PS5. Shame the game is played on grass.
What always makes me laugh about the first Galacticos is they were a mesh of great players thrown together with no clue.

To give one example - people these days defend Beckham as a player because he 'played for United, Madrid and Milan, you must be great if you play for big clubs'...but what they don't get with their superficial analysis is his signing represented everything that was wrong with their Galactico policy - he replaced Makelele in the team which completely upset their balance. Consequently he was pretty average for most of his time there and they won very little.

Likewise, he was emblematic of Milan's problems at the time - signing old, past-it players and doing absolutely nothing, signalling the start of their demise that continues to this day.

But hilariously people will still talk about how guys like he and Michael Owen 'played for Real Madrid and/or Milan' not realising that the teams were generally unsuccessful when they were there, largely because of singing players like them (in one way or another).

Don't have to 'defend Beckham as a player' by teams he's been in, he was quite comfortably one of the best wide midfielders of the time. Even if his move was as much a business decision as it was football related

Owen bagged 13 goals mostly as a rotation player while living in a hotel for a year too

Nothing to do with offensive players themselves but Perez having little clue how to build a football team and taking it on anyway

Never said he wasn't one of the better ones (though you could name several who were significantly superior). Just said the reason isn't because he played for Real and Milan, in fact he'd have had a better career had he stayed at the Mancs where he was always comfortable and where his best football was played. But Ferguson saw to that

. I watched Real Madrid a lot at the time and he flattered to deceive. But I know Beckham is Jesus to some people so it's not cool to criticise him.

Owen scored some goals but he was still not a RM level player. I was never a fan of his though.

Either way, Beckham's singing in particular (and turfing out Makelele) sums up everything that was wrong with the Galactico policy and why it failed.

U guyz have most successful president in football ever. a bit more respect is in order
Funny how Perez cannot get the first Galacticos right bar the odd trophy, but can win 6 CLs with the second/third ones.

It's almost like Gato is making it up as he goes along in his post.

Nah signing Beckham was fine

Making it out as if had to turf out Makelele to get it done is the problem - didn't need to
Don't have to be a fan of Owen to see he did well till he broke his foot

To think people still think a guy directing a club to titles can't get things wrong in the process is still a thing

Man makes mistakes
Be it Makelele
Be it defenders
Be it selling one player, sacking one coach or keeping another

Maybe. But Beckham was still a case of too many cooks.

Owen did okay but he was never gonna be a Real Madrid starting striker long-term, let's be serious. He was already in decline by then as his main and only weapon - his pace - was already declining due to the injuries. Either way Owen was an addendum to my post - it was mostly about Beckham and how his fame and celebrity worship fooled Perez.
