Ronald Koeman

Squad selection is more of a problem than Koeman is. He has to work with what he has and he does a decent job imo. Guys in here demanding a new coach every 3 months but lets be serious: None of Klopp, Poch, Allegri would do much better under these circumstances. It took Klopp some years to build that Liverpool winning team.

Koeman got rid off big earners and starting players Rakitic, Vidal and Suarez. He wanted Gini Wijnaldum and Depay as their replacements but didn't get one of them given the financial situation. After the first few months I understand why he wanted a hard-working, physical player like Gini. We don't have that kind of player in the squad and it's hurting us. Depay won't be the perfect solution for the problems at #9 but he was a good value/market opportunity who could add something to the team.

The only player Koeman got was Dest who was bought after selling Semedo for more money. Not mentioning Pjanic because I don't think Koeman would've signed him. Trincao and Pedri also were signed before Koeman's appointment.

No money for players + an overpriced squad is probably the worst combination for a team in a rebuilding phase.

Fati, despite his young age, was the best performing offensive player in this team until his injury. Koeman had to replace him.

Pique, although not in his prime anymore, is still the best CB in this team and the only one who can somewhat guide a backline. Injured.

Dembele with all his flaws, had to be managed carefully because his body wasn't used to this type of load after being injured for years more or less, has a little injury too. Squad without Fati and him = no quality wingers

Messi, the most reliable player in the last years, stopped being reliable. His scoring numbers have plummeted and without these the club is not only missing goals and assists, but also suffers even more of Messi not being a "formation-player" who does its job within the team.

Now you can argue about formations like 4-2-3-1 is weak, 4-3-3 is better because players are used to it and there is more balance yada yada yada I have to agree with Koeman here, that with this squad and type of players, 4-2-3-1 is the better formation. Without wingers none of those will work perfectly.

Add to that the mess Bartomeu has the club left in.

Imo, under these circumstances, Koeman is doing a decent job. Of course, overall, the team could have done better here and there, but let's not forget that there are many issues in this squad and it's fucking impossible to do everything right when you have to improvise a lot.

This is a 2014 tweet by David Albelda who played under koaman at Valencia.

"Hopefully he coaches Barcelona someday so the league will be somewhat equal."

Yes Cowman had the same issue in every team he has managed for the past 20 years. That's the main reason why he always fail. This guy is so misunderstood, if he only got Depay, we would have smashed Juve by half dozen.

For the love of God why are people blabbing on about a Puig, Pedri and De Jong midfield?
That midfield might be good against lower level liga teams but we would get slaughtered in cl. Too weak, too slow and not enough skill. These guys are not Xavi or Iniesta.

In case you haven't noticed, we are 3 points above relegation zone. Beating lower level liga teams would be a good start. An improvement over what we have.

Who's talking about CL, Xavi or Iniesta?

Yea, it's frustrating.

As if we have some peak Lampard hidden somewhere and we are ignoring him to fantasize about Puig and Pedri in midfield . Newsflash. We have old geezer Busi, and soon to be old geezer Pjanic. Both the football equivalents of a beaten-up Fiat Punto. And Alena.

In these conditions, go ahead and play Pedri, De Jong, Puig. The best youngsters we have except for the injured Fati.

People like to moan without facing the reality and proposing some viable options to improve the situation, or at least use this crap season to develop some players.

Its hard to tell these days if a coach is bad or good here. With this kind of squad its impossible to expect something good. Barto and covid19 destroyed this club.

Koeman said for md that we need to win this 3 games at home, that we are in transitional period, and that we would see winning barca in february.

Damn right, try to not fuck us up until february first coach
