Ronald Koeman

He is an average manager but what works for him is the fact that he is a bonafide legend and strong personality.
That instantly garners respect from the players.
So far I'd give him 6.5 out of 10.

I'd give him a 7 for now. We're in 5th position. Not acceptable by any means but under the current circumstances i'll say we're ok with lots of room to improve. The injuries to Fati and Dembele really fucked us. It's difficult to play 4-3-3/4-2-3-1 without competent wide players. We also dropped a ton of points with numerous individual errors. Also the composition of the team needs some work. We're not short on technical ability but we lack athleticism. All the top teams right now have a balance of technique, athleticism and also aggression.

That's the direction the game is moving. We're way behind in the latter 2 areas which is one of the reasons we keep getting blown away in Europe. Maybe in the summer we can fix it. But with all the shit the club has been through after the Bayern hammering and then the summer with Barto and Messi wanting out to now, i think Koeman has done a relatively ok job. Not impressive but ok. 7/10 from me.

You're welcome
Also deserves some credit for keeping team motivated and alive until end of the games even when results have been disappointing and not being able to score might get team frustrated. Team is showing fighting spirit, havent seen that in a while.

I think he has locker room pretty much under control and respect of the players and they are willing to go the extra mile.

FickleForum at it again. Too much praise after a single win against weak side. It was a good win and i liked how we played. I think we did well because we didn't have Cout and Griez stinking up the place with their redundant impotence. Pedri and Messi is just about enough for centrally positioned attackers. If he has balls to repeat this (dropping shit players) kind of management on constant bases then i will praise him. His idiotic late game subs though leaves me skeptical still. And Puig saga makes me doubt his meritocracy. I couldn't care less what he does or does not like about certain players personally. His duty is to use the resources he have in best way possible for the club.

Wait till we hit another setback, he's back to summoning saviour Griezmann from the dead. Wont trust him anywhere near this team for a long-term rebuild. Horrendous subs and management all round. And having 3 at the back is suicidal. I get that feeling he's against Puig bcos of his stature. If that's the case then his philosophy doesn't fit that of Barca's and this sorta backward mindset will get him nowhere. One meagre win and we are back to praising him.

Some of you here are 100% dogmatic about formation. It's only 4-3-3 or nothing else.
You didn't see any merits in the 4-2-3-1, you are now ditching 3 at the back despite result/performance yesterday.
You want a pivot in front of the defense, you want interiors, even if the current personnel can not do that or it hinders other departments.

Of course all managers (even the most dogmatic) know that formation alone says nothing. It's all about football principles and the personnel available. See how many different formations Pep tried after Barca. He is now playing with two 6s, something unthinkable some years back.

That kind of dogmatic idealism you are supporting is out of touch with reality.

They will probably win, but if we don't run them close it's gonna be bad for Koeman. On the other hand, if we do knock them out, it's probably the biggest, most notable victim since... well... PSG and that famous 6-1 .

In Ligue 1 this season, their results vs Lyon, Marseille, Monaco, and Lille are 0 wins, 1 draw, and 3 losses. They have their fair share of weaknesses too.

PSG is better suited Vs teams who attack and wants the possession. Neymar, DiMaria and Mbappe will hurt us in counter. That's their weapon..not surprised they struggle in French league with their midfield. Not much creativity. Tough to dominate games with their midfield but they can be dangerous counter attacking.

I assume they will play same strategy Vs Barca as they played Vs Liepzig and United. Three up front waiting for the ball and rest defending, kicking the ball to their three upfront.

If we score the first goal, we have a chance, because they can't just sit back and defend.

Thats really interesting but i think our most shots were from unfavorable positions while for example Liverpool shoots more from good positions.

Barca are top scorers in La Liga and have missed the most in terms of xG.

Not all that surprising that. The team has been good going forward. Much better than last season as a unit. Just missing too many and balance of team defensively still not there.

This. That's why I was not worried about Koeman. He gets hated a lot in the community. The team is getting lots of chances and is missing a lot of them. Might be because they have to run more and lack freshness in front of the goal or just a bad patch of finishing. However, I'd be way more worried if the team wasn't getting chances.

Don't think so. If anything we are really not shooting enough from 15-25 meters zone. Messi and Griezmann have missed far too many clear chances so far.
