The marriage analogy is fucking terrible and doesnt equate to the situation though.
He literally didn't, doubt he even did it with Roberto.
His career as coach started in 2006, Messi alreasy had 1st season and Pique was on loan to Zaragoza
You have a interesting definition of pride jammy
If he has pride he should not quit and play into hands of those trying to force him out.
Pride here means staying and taking the money.. only thing will stop that is if he swallows his pride and puts club first which Laporta is making less likely to happen.
Btw I do agree that this is being handled quite badly and similarly to how some things went through with the last board.
You either have to fire him or commit to him. Asking for extra time and shit like that is disrespectful to any coach and makes them look like they don't have a plan.
Laporta hung him out to dry, publicly. If you don't have the support from the president himself, what's the point in trying to stay?
Also: Koeman should have known this could happen when he signed that contract. He had been offered the job at multiple occasions before but always waited for the perfect moment. This time he saw this being his last ever chance so he jumped at it. I don't buy the "he took the job to help Barca" schtick his buddies in the press throw out.
I thought his contract included an exit clause the new President could use to move on from him. I remember it being reported at the time it was appointed, but apparently that's not the case. Would cost us 12m to fire him.
Of course he would have known it could happen he is not daft.
No coach comes in and thinks they are set to stay for whole contract regardless.
Koeman has himself to blame for not being wanted due to way team finished season though.
Seems to be me was confident he was going to stay regardless, although perhaps that was before the meltdown.
