Dude R9 is so fucking overrated in these GOAT conversations! You can't be considered the GOAT based on a few ridiculous seasons.

He's nowhere near Messi and CR7. Talent isn't the only deciding factor in GOAT debates. Neymar is more talented than CR7 but nowhere near him overall.

A lot of R9's story is coated with nostalgia and what-ifs. Yes, his peak was magic, up there with the best and we haven't seen anything like that but he just didn't do it for long enough. Similar to R10. I can argue that watching peak R10 is the best experience this sport can possibly offer but in GOAT debates, you need more than that.

It's Pele, Maradona, Messi, CR7. These are the candidates. CR7's case isn't as strong as it was before 2022 because his rival won the WC, which is HUGE in terms of legacy. Not that I am expecting CR7 to win the WC with Portugal but his performances in WC knockouts have been shocking. As depressing as this is, I guess the Inter Miami guy has the best argument currently.
Lol putting Ronaldo in with those three is ridiculous, mate. What makes him better than Cruyff or Beckenbauer or Platini or Zico etc? Other than the fact those guys are all dead or forgotten in the year 2025 and he's a massive celebrity? You just seen him keeping up with Messi in goalscoring and achievements and assume that if Messi is a GOAT, Ronaldo must be one too.

Ronaldo is very fortunate to play in the internet era where his marketing makes people think he is. Putting him on Messi, Maradona and Pele level is fucking ridiculous - he stands out like a sore thumb there. I know people do do it but I think it's because of his rep off the pitch.

And I watched R9 in his prime and talent-wise he pisses on CR from a great height. But you're right, it's not about talent. But CR will never reach Ronaldo's peak from 1996-1999.

Also anyone who cared about the World Cup is shallow. I would still rate Messi as miles better than CR if Portugal had won the World Cup and Argentina had gone out in the first round. Why? BECAUSE HE IS OBJECTIVELY A FAR FAR MORE GIFTED FOOTBALLER, REGARDLESS OF TEAM ACHIEVEMENTS. One tournament won't change that. As it is the World Cup simply solidified it even further.

Also, the fact you say it's depressing that Messi has the better case shows you have a bias towards Ronaldo and will always overstate him in these debates and underrate Messi and other players. I don't like Messi as a guy, he's a bit of a prick really, but he IS miles more talented than Ronaldo, regardless of who is the better person, or better looking, or has more X followers. I don't like either of them and would ignore them if they were in the same room as me, but I rate them by how good they are at football. If Ronaldo was better I'd say so, but he's significantly inferior.

It's just the inescapable fact for Ronaldo fans and Ronaldo himself. In terms of pure footballing ability Messi pisses on him from a skyscraper the height of the Empire State building. There's absolutely no contest.

You are a great guy with a good personality, but we will always butt heads on him and never reach a consensus, ever. I hope you know it is nothing personal though, and it doesn't make me think any less of you as a person. It's just footballers who know neither of us exist.

This is why I also rank Cristiano ahead of Maradona in this. I have no doubts about who is the better footballer with more talent but Cristiano's achievements, consistency simply give him a slight advantage.
Fair point if that is your criteria, but I would argue leading a decent but not great Argentina to the 86 world cup and nearly doing it again with an awful team in 1990, and winning the UEFA Cup and Serie A (when it was the strongest league ever arguably) with a good but not great Napoli side is far more impressive than winning things with Real Madrid and Man United. Real Madrid have proved that they have an affinity with the CL. Ronaldo benefitted from that, not the other way about.

What makes me laugh about Ronaldo fans is their hypocrisy. They say stuff like they value players doing something with a team nobody ever has. Yet they don't mention Maradona's ridiculous achievements at Napoli, who weren't much of a club in their history before the day he stepped foot there. Cristiano Ronaldo wishes he was the singular force of nature Maradona was - he's always needed good team-mates and service as his failures with Portugal prove.

One thing that proves how ridiculous this Ronaldo cult is was idiots posting that he had the same amount of goals and assists at Euro 2016 as Maradona had in 1986. Damn lies and statistics. Ronaldo was mediocre in 2016, had two good games and two of his assists were mishit shots or a rebound from a shot. He also went off in the final and Portugal won without him.

Maradona, on the other hand, was by a mile the player of the tournament in 1986 and absolutely dragged his team kicking and screaming to the final, and created chances and moments of magic galore. Yet Ronaldo's fanboys try to gaslight people into thinking they had similar standard tournaments with their pathetic stats.

This is the sort of thing that happens with Cristiano Ronaldo. Spin doctor shite that politicians would be proud of.

I am less like you in that talent matters more to me than achievements and hard work. A lot more. I am a football romantic. Hence, I can never rate CR as high as some do. He leaves me cold.

Every player mentioned in GOAT discussions have at least won one World Cup apart from a certain individual who has less KO goals than a bench player at PSG.

I think it's more you do sth special what other people didnt achieve,

for example Maradona dominated 86WC like no other player before

Pele won 3 Wcs by being Brazil's star player

Cristiano lead his team to their first int. title in history + won 3 cls in a row by being their star player

Messi did well at WC22 but problem what many ppl have is that it was a penalty party thats why most guys dont remember that WC as much as many other WCs/EUROs and cls only won when Barca was by far the best team in the world

but i will give him the ok for the GOAT debate because of his dribbling/chance creating ability

One day we will find the winner of the GOAT discussion and i will be here ✌️

a lot of random rambling that makes no sense

His legacy took a massive dump considering he joined a high flying Juventus and turned them into a team struggling to get 4th in Serie A and then joined a Man Utd who were looking to be on their way up with a 2nd place and made them fall like a rock.

All while Real Madrid have continued winning CL titles without missing him.

Also he didn't do anything for Portugal in the EURO final lol.

That said he's still a top 10 player all-time, but you cannot be in the GOAT discussion without a WC Trophy or at least a legendary WC campaign, sorry. That's just how it works in all sports.
