Samuel Umtiti

❗ Barcelona have released Samuel Umtiti and Miralem Pjanic. They won't be the only players, either. The club desperately needs to reduce the wage bill.

Stunning

Umtiti makes sense if he doesn't want to leave but Pjanić should be rather loaned out.

We took a loan just for this. We have money.

Most of that loan is going towards the short-term debt and backdated salaries we owe to the players. I highly doubt that we have that much money to just release players, especially on players who are on 150k to 200k a week with 1 to 3 years left on their contract. It's rather expensive.

I really hope we don't release like half our squad just so it funds Messi's salary. I get Messi is one of the best players in the world, but it would be disgusting actions if it's true. Sometimes you have to let things go, and sacrificing depth in our squad just to keep one player isn't very smart at all. Also, you can't expect a 34-year-old to carry the load.

I feel a bit sad about his situation more than anyone else, because he was so class when fit.

Is story is a bit like milito a few years ago.

Not sure but I remember him taking a risk to go to World Cup and after that he never took the surgery right? I can't really feel sorry for him. He made his decisions.

Oh well, our doctors should have known better his knee would collapse any second.. :shakeshead:

Pjanic and Umtiti are not depth. At least not worthwhile depth.

Doubt we can terminate Pjanic's contract. Wouldn't that be a huge loss on the books on top of us commiting to his massive salary? Sadly, little chance a loan deal (or any deal, for that matter) works for Umtiti..

I know they're not, but I'm talking in general. We're apparently trying to release/loan/sell a lot of players just so we can fund Messi's salary. I don't want us to get into a situation where we'll have no depth next season. Say a couple of our starters get injured next season, we're going to be completely fucked. Not to mention, Fati and Coutinho have been out with long injuries and we don't know if they'll recover properly next season. Dembele is also out till about December. Aguero has had injuries in the past 18 months.

Yeah, there is no point in terminating players like Umtiti and Pjanic in any case because it'll still cost us a fortune by doing so.

Any contract termination is usually a huge loss and should always just be a last resort kind of action if there truly is no hope at all that any team would pick up the player. I mean there are reasons why it basically never happenes, it's not easy, it's costly and it makes you look bad.

But it seems like the club is simply that desperate. They need to get rid of wages no matter how and most importantly they have to do it fast. Even if it's a loss overall it would still reduce wages for next season, what seems to be the biggest issue at the moment.

Dude, we are just trying to get rid of the deadweight for now. Players who would have made no difference anyway. There is no substance or depth lost yet. Same should have happened without the Messi situation as well.

That's why I said in general. I've also seen rumours of shifting some of our important players so it can fund Messi's salary if needs be.
