It's playing on words.. yeah Rosell stayed away from promising transfers during the election and concentrated on the issues of the club and their members without putting X or Y as a guaranteed signing ala Laporta with Becks in the last election with the usual "we will do what Pep wants " but he never said clearly if i was elected i will bring X or Y players .
however since his election he did say several times he will bring Cesc.. so to sum up
1- Yes Cesc wasn't part of Rosell election campaign manifesto .
2- he spent the first month + trying to bring Cesc and failed
I am not a huge Rosell fan, but in his defense we could have signed Cesc this Summer if we were ready to pay Real Madrid money for him. Meaning stupid, irresponsible type of money.
The only reason Wenger did not sell or hold out was because they were hoping for a 50M + type bid to come in for him. Rosell was smart not to budge. I think it showed restraint, prudencey and good leadership. Something I did not think he would show.
In fact I think the club is amplifying it's debt problem under Rosell's instruction because he knows that Cesc is not worth the kind of money that us fans would want to spend to bring him back. Fans forgive Sandro for not signing Cesc today in light of the debt. Note, the 500M or so the club owes the banks can be nullified quickly if it sold it's assets (players like Messi, Pique, Iniesta etc.), the stadium plus other assets belonging to the club, the image rights, TV contracts etc. etc. etc. I don't know, I don't have all the details. However a banks are not going to foreclose on FC Barcelona tomorrow, this is nonsense. Rosell knows this being an astute business man of the game..
Cesc will come next year and for the money Sandro wants to pay. Around 40M Euro's max. At that time Xavi may be ready to play a role off the bench.
