Sandro Rosell

To be honest those kind of statements are way too premture at the moment.

Sandro's been our active Presi for what... barely one month and a half? I'd give him a year or two before judging him properly.

Let's just see how this all pans out before pushing the "Panic!" button.

Man what is up with everyone at the moment??? The slightest thing and people are freaking out like its the end of the world?? Between the whole "squad is too thin" epidemic and now this comparison of Rosell's 2 months to Laporta's 7 years?? WTF?????
In fairness to Rosell he is really acting tight with money and not wasting it on luxury signings such as Fabregas which is very encouraging.

Someone needs to remind him this article from the statutes:

Article 6.- Language
The language of FC Barcelona is Catalan and, therefore, it will be the normal language of preferred use in all the Club activities.

Cruyff couldn't have been Barça honour president because this position doesn't exist in the statutes but today he spoke in spanish during the world 'Penyes' council. Isn't this council a Club activity?

I understand why Rosell was the favourite candidate for spanish media.

I hate you Rosell. You are even worst than Gaspart.

It was the worldwide penya congress, surely it makes sense to use the language that can communicate with the largest number of people?

Number of Members: 173,071

Geographic Distribution:
Barcelona -> 64,306
Rest of Catalunya -> 86,355 (Inside Catalunya -> 150,661)
Out of Catalunya -> 23,040 (Out of Spain -> Unkwnown)

Inside Catalunya: 86.74%
Out of Catalunya: 13.26%

Where the largest number of people come from? Doesn't have the 'pavilion' a real time translating option? There aren't penyes worldwide? Do all this penyes understand spanish? I don't think so. Why then he used spanish? Is the official lenguage of the club? Is an international lenguage as english?

He used the statutes to took Cruyff's medal off but he doesn't use them now.......... :rolleyes:

He used this moto during the elections campaign: 'El Barça som tots' [We all are Barça]. But with the word 'tots' [all] he really wanted to mean 'tots els espanyols' [all the spaniards]. The rest of culers must be fucked off.

But we're not talking about members, we're talking about penyes. I love the Catalan language and I think it's right that Barça promote it wherever possible but if the majority of penyes there today are from outside Catalunya it makes sense to use Spanish to communicate to them.

Why can't it be possible to be willing to communicate in Castillian and not be oppressing the Catalan language at the same time? Like you said, the quote was 'El Barça som tots' , not 'Tots som català'

Rosell MUST respect the statutes of the club like he did when he boasted of take Cruyff's medal off.

Pragmatism needs to be applied too. The reality is Castilian would be understood by a larger audience than Catalan. Realistically in this case it was for the convenience of the audience. Catalan is and of course should remain the primary club language for the majority of activities, but the occasional use of Castilian to reach a broader fan base is hardly contradictory. Barcelona is the club of Catalunya first but to alienate the fans in Spain and worldwide with an extreme position is an insult to major financial and morale contributors.

You obviously can't please everyone but common sense dictates that Castilian is the best way to communicate with as many people as possible when the speech is directed for worldwide penyas.

When someone wants to a be a member of any club the person must accept and respect the rules of the private institution. If lot of protestant people were memebrs of Celtic do you thing the club should change his catholic being only because the protestant members feel offended? No. Because those people should have known what kind fo club they have joined.
