Scholes Vs Xavi (Not a direct comparison thread)

Meta said it about Makelele. I'll say it about Scholes: he got underrated for so long that in hindsight people try to make up for it now by placing him among the likes of Xavi.

this is definitely the case.

I don't know what made things change, maybe it was his near-retirement with an eye problem, or how bad England's midfield got in his absence, I dunno. whatever it was, they have overcompensated BIG TIME since then. I mean he's a fucking rolls royce of a midfielder, but my man jamrock sums it up:

its kinda like comparing ronaldo and messi, yes ronaldo is great, one of the best to kick a football, but messi is one of the all time greats.

Scholes in Ronaldo, one of the best of his generation
Xavi is Messi, arguably the best CM ever.

Scholes is a great player, but xavi is better..
Technically speaking: the long and high passes were about the same (scholes was hitting longer ones, but this is because of Man UTD style).
But, the difference is in the low, long-medium-short passes, where Xavi is the boss.. He can pinpoint any player.. He can see the movement like no one else..
E.g.

The 5s and the 2s were made by scholes also, but not the 4s, 3s and 1s.. Especially the 4s

Also, most ones of these were not made by Scholes:

Look at the 4 and 3 vs Sevilla..

The question remains: what if? (Scholes was playing in his prime for this barca and Xavi for ManUTD). Maybe it would have been different, but it still remains a what if question.. the fact is that Scholes never made those low, pinpointing assists..

No, it's probably because when it's all said and done Xavi will be recognized as the better player. Worldwide that is. We'll have to wait some more years for confirmation.

At the end of the day, from people who actually know a little about football, both players will be remembered as being amongst the very best. Is Xavi better than scholes in his prime?..perhaps a tad. But it certainly isn't unreasonable to mention them both in the same breath, like some would have you believe here.

I wouldn't get too excited about comments like that...Ask them privately whether English players let alone the game is hyped beyond oblivion and then get your real answer...Consider the setting, English interview

You've asked him privately what he thinks of English football? I suspect not, and if you search for the interview, he's pretty frank in his assessment of the game over here. I don't believe he bullshitting, he has nothing to gain, and as has been said, this isn't the first time he's had massive praise for Scholes. I'm not suggesting that Scholes was ever better, only that this is clearly not an English media invention. Watching Scholes play should be evidence alone of that, assuming you had done.

That video with his Top 20 assists makes me weep...

They can certainly be mentioned in the same breath.

But I honestly believe that Xavi was/is somewhat better.

Who says he's embellishing?...I said consider the setting of the interview...Xavi shows massive respect and that's how I'd take that comment, he deflects adulation & awards for even himself...So who's really surprised that he'd talk highly of one of the best CMs in English football

Far cry from concluding that he truly believes he's inferior...Context folks, context

Xavi is not the type of person to praise himself. He would praise every footballer he is asked for, he would never say he sucks even if it is so.

Xavi -

"In the last 15 to 20 years the best central midfielder that I have seen - the most complete - is Scholes," he said.

"I have spoken with Xabi Alonso about this many times. Scholes is a spectacular player who has everything.

"He can play the final pass, he can score, he is strong, he never gets knocked off the ball and he doesn’t give possession away. If he had been Spanish then maybe he would have been valued more."

xavi is a virgin though... why would anyone listen to a virgin?
