Scholes Vs Xavi (Not a direct comparison thread)

It would be nice if some people who've posted in this thread will take off their Barca glasses for 1 second. I'd say Xavi and Scholes are just as good as each other.

the thing about scholes is he's played in 3 positions - first as a striker, then moved a box to box midfielder, then to a deeper lying playmaker, similar to xavi.

scholes can strike the ball with ridiculous accuracy and scored 150 goals during his career, but was also the best passer in the epl, performing ridiculous 40 - 50 yard passes with deadly accuracy.

Xavi has never been a goal scorer and has only really played in one role, there's a reason why he admires Scholes - scholes can score goals, pass, has vision, retains the ball and dictates the game, just like how Xavi does.

Also the argument about international players is a bit unfair - the Spanish world cup winning team was full of other world class players, it wasn't just down to Xavi. The English national team has never been on that level, just because Scholes has never won a world cup, it doesn't mean he is a worse player.

At least give clear reasons why one player is better than another rather than just being a bandwagoner.

look at these passes, go to 1:42

Deep breath... because Scholes is/was a great player, whereas Xavi is one of the Greats.

Nobody dictates the game like Xavi does, everybody who knows their stuff knows that.

Have you watched Scholes play? I agree Xavi is one of the all time greats but I'd put Scholes up with him in terms of dictating the game, he never loses the ball and has Xavi's natural ability of being able to create space for himself, and his long passing is a joy to watch, even at the age of 36 he hadn't lost any of his technical ability. as well as the fact Scholes has adapted in different positions and has scored 150 goals from midfield in his club career.

The only thing I don't like about Scholes is that when he gets frustrated, it affects his game and lunges in for dangerous tackles. Xavi always seems to remain calm

Let's see, I am 23 years old and lived at home til I was 18 with skysports and a Utd supporting Father.. there is a good chance I have seen over 95% of career. I'm not saying he is good, but Xavi is a phenomenon, there is no argument to be had here because Xavi is the heartbeat of the greatest club side and the most successful international sides of recent times and both look floppy and disjointed without him.

You can put Scholes wherever you want to petal, but the fact is whilst he has many qualities that make him one of the generations best attacking midfielders, he isn't Xavi the manipulator.

ok, i respect your opinion, although you don't really go into to detail, no need for trying to be patronising though. just take into account scholes never had an iniesta beside him, he's always mostly been operated in a 4-4-2 system, with a more defensively minded central midfielder

Xavi vs Paul Scholes in his prime

Who's better. I honestly can't decide.

Technical ability wise they are about the same. Both fantastic dribblers, turners and agile players with glorious first touches.
Short passing Xavi is probably better, though not by much.
Long passing Scholes, though again not by very much.
Vision they are both about the same, both are capable of stupidly creative through balls.
Scholes scores alot more goals than Xavi.
Xavi's tackling and defending is alot better than Scholes.
Positional wise they are about the same, both very aware playmakers.

Who would ya rather have?

some consider xavi the best central midfielder, ever.

and, naturally as a barcelona fan, i would choose xavi.
