Sergi Roberto

Right back at you. I wonder why Roberto was tried there, then :)

Roberto didn't play against top sides, but his passing and distribution is better than Masch there. Masch is a destroyer, and the midfield suffers when he plays there.

Because it was pre-season and it didn't matter if we lost. He needed to gauge his options in midfield.

Roberto does not have better passing/distribution skills than Mascherano...Did you not watch any of the world cup last year? One thing all pundits commented on was how brilliant Mascherano was in DCM coming forwards and distributing the ball. Regardless, we're talking about DCM, and you say a destroyer is a bad thing. Do you know what DCM means? We're spoiled with Busquets who is an effective destroyer as well as creator. That doesn't mean that the answer to his absence is to put in a normal CM (a sub-standard one at that) and hope he does ok because he "can pass". He'll offer the defence 0 protection.

Again the "he is a great dm for argentina" argument, I see. Playing dm for Argentina and Barça are very, very different things. Different set of skills required. And that's exatcly why Masch is a great dm for arg, and a weak one for Barça. Roberto played as dm last season, not only in pre season, btw. And offered more than Masch. Masch flourished as cb here for a very good reason, although he has many flaws there. When Busquets need rest, against lesser teams, Roberto is a better choice, currently. Not ideal, obviously, but better than Mascherano.

Squawka stats won't change reality.

What a match by him and to think that we played Montoya, Douglas and Adriano in that position while Roberto was sitting on the bench:facepalm:

Take it easy when mocking Sergi Roberto at CM.

He is a liability at that position, but he can still play an important role at Barca elsewhere.

And credit to Lucho for discovering this side of him. (Although giving credit to Lucho might be asking to much of some people)
