Yes, we all know "natural" full backs could never have a bad game. Alba has never had a bad game. Same with Marcelo. Or Bellerin. Ever. Always demand to sell or move position if a player has a bad game. He's had plenty of great games against Atletico, Sevilla, Villarreal etc but suddenly those teams are garbage and his performance against them is meaningless.

he's better midfielder than LD. he's not a defender. he could be in place of busquets now, or with him in a double pivot.

He's been sensational as a RB, better than Alba during the same time so this "not a defender" is the same rhetoric we heard for years with Busi not being a DM, Xavi not being a CM, Masche not being a CB, Yaya not being a DM etc etc etc.

Just ignore it.

That being said, maybe we should try playing him at DM. Busi has been poor, I'm sure Roberto could do better.

We could try Mascherano at RB again in a match like that.

Making that compilcated pass towards the middle of the pitch was not a mistake.. this is not real madrid or chealsea.. we are the best because our fashion of football is the best.. and our players are required to pass between the lines to get the ball out smoothly and absorb the pressing of opponents like city.. roberto made a mistake in the execution of the pass , but in retrospective , at that exact same moment i would have hated if he threw the ball 70 meters away.. our style requires risks , when done correctly , its that style that got us the crown of europeen football.not the boring pkay it safe stuff. Roberto is already a world class player, im almost sure next time he will deliver the perfect pass in those circumstances

Give him a break, he had ONE bad game and people are already calling for his head and demanding he goes back to midfield. We have like 8 midfielders right now lol, how the fuck do you want him to go back to an overcrowded position instead of at right back where we literally have no one else to play, not even decently. Y'all are geniuses, really.

Mascherano would make a better RB .... he's a natural defender and a tenacious tackler mad good on the ball .

He's slow as shit. We need our right back to have great pace/speed outbursts and do well in attack too.
Guys it's not going to happen this season. Get a grip.

Surprised he didn't say.

"We need to push Roberto back into the Midfield and play Masche at RB! So we can spend a shitload of money on Getting Bellerin Back this Summer!"

:blondemessi:

It's implied. Get with the times :neymar:

when done correctly , its that style that got us the crown of europeen football.not the boring play it safe stuff.

Well, our style was usually NOT good enough and we usually end up losing key semis and finals due to being too naive and making mistakes like the one which Roberto did.
Our style brought only one title, in 1992, and even then we were lucky in some knockout rounds and we were saved in dying seconds, plus in a final we won from a free kick.
Not to mention that only 1 per country played in champions cup back then, so it wasn't "a true/very strong CL" back then.

When Champions league became crowded with 4 Italian, English, Spanish and German teams, our style WAS NEVER good enough and we were losing as naive kids year after year.
The only real title is 2006, when we already had young Messi, plus back then Rijkaard played extremely pragmatic and somewhat Italian-style.
So, basically, "our style" worked ONLY and ONLY when we had Messi (and Xavi and Iniesta) behind him.

Without Messi (Xavi+Iniesta), we were just Barca, who played nice, but who is always losing in insanely naive fashion year after year.
Messi managed to bring our club to another level.

When he'll be gone, I am afraid that we will be just a good, old, naive Barca who plays beautiful, but always loses in key moments.

Back to your question, NO, these passes are not the way to go.
Yes, we should try to keep the ball and control matches, but with stupid passes like from Mats and Roberto lately, we'll not win a CL too soon, when Messi retires.

So, we should play 90% like Barca (possession no matter what) and 10% Italian style (kick the ball our in dangerous moments).
With 100% Barca's style (like in the last few weeks), we will become a youtube's laughing stock very soon week after week.

It is beyond me
how some guys think Bellerin is better @<a href="http://www.barcaforum.com/member.php?u=1588" target="_blank">Zincubus</a> @<a href="http://www.barcaforum.com/member.php?u=20420" target="_blank">God Serena</a>

You didn't see Sergie against Man City the other night , I'm guessing.

You can't be serious.

Perplexed ..... Why wouldn't a proven world class , experienced , defensive minded midfielder who's played in DEFENCE for the last few years NOT be better than a young , inexperienced , attack minded midfielder at RB !?!?!

You do know that when Mascherano IS played at RB I will be mentioning it in here :)

It's a basic rule , tought to the under 10's ....." DON'T PASS ACROSS YOUR OWN PENALTY BOX "..

He first time he did it the other night they scored and it completely changed the game , he then went on to do it AGAIN just minutes later and also in the first few seconds of the second half which also resulted in a clear chance that was thankfully squandered .

Playing a high risk passing game in defense is crucial for our play. Our players are instructed to do that.

Sorry, have you watched Barca before Messi and before Pep?

Yes, it is our style, but once again, it is one of the key reasons both:
1. why we play beautiful
2. and why we almost NEVER won CLs before Messi

Almost every of our CL campaigns from 1990-2006 ended in the same fashion:
1. Barca played nice and it seemed that we are controlling the play
2. the opponent bangs goal after goal either from counterattacks or after individual mistakes from our players in passing around our box

Without Messi, we were just a naive team who was always losing in key matches.
With Messi, we managed to neutralize 1-2 goals conceded from counters and after individual mistakes with Messi's 2-3-4 goals in the opponent's net.
Remove Messi from these maths, and we will again be good, old, naive Barca if we'll continue to play 100% dumb with passing around the box in EVERY single action.

Milan 4:0 1994:
-- 1st goal, Nadal keeps a possession with a header, while he could have kicked the ball upfield or something. We concede for 0:1 right away
-- 3rd goal, look at "a resolute" clearance from our defender. We conceded right away for 0:3, match is finished after that moment

Valencia 4:1 2000:
-- 2nd goal, individual mistake in an action build up deep in our half
-- 3rd goal, somewhat poor clearance before a pen (the ball could have been kick out better and further)

Bayern 1:2 1998:
-- just look at overall defending of our team (1st goal for example). You always have a feeling that they are close to a ball and that they can just kick it upfield, but no

Anyway, just open a youtube and watch Barca's CL knockout matches in 90s and until 2006, and more or less every match will look the same.
We conceded goals from either comical allround defending, or from individual mistakes when we try to pass the ball around our box.

There is a very strong reason why Barca won only one CL (in 1992) before Messi.

So, yes, passing around our the box is our style, but it hasn't brought us too many titles in our history before Xavi-Messi duo.
Before Xavi, a guy who managed to bring our passing style to a more intelligent and effective level.
And before Messi, who managed to save our asses each time with his individual out of this world brilliance.

So, imo, NO, passing a ball around our box in 100% of times=is not a way to go.
We need to be more pragmatic and just kick the ball upfield in some dangerous moments.
