Sergi Samper

An article about Barcelona's most overhyped players in the last 10 years:
http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2701697-barcelonas-most-over-hyped-players-of-last-10-years

That list actually says that bucktoothed bastard Gumbau got called up ahead of Samper as an excuse for why Samper failed.

This is why I left B/R. Toilet paper journalism.

Edit: And why is Gomes on the list? His only true fans here were gasgas and serghei and everyone else seemed neutral on him until he started playing like shit each and every week.

Why is that? Samper is 22 and so far has shown nothing that he can become a good player for us, he is and always will be a talent

Well that's not true at all. Just because he's not starting for Granada in his first La Liga season doesn't mean he's a flop.

I don't know why, but for some reason people think going on loan is for the canteranos to prove themselves, rather than improve.

Granada is a mess this season. They just changed the coach again. Samper lost a year going on loan there. He should had stayed. No one can convince me he'd be worse than Gomes. And in the very least, 35m would had been saved.

Wow thats a wasted loan, I still like him and believe he can do well for us, at least he cannot possibly be worse than Gomes

It would be criminal not to give Samper a chance. I'm among those that have doubts about his potential to succeed but he should get a full and fair chance to prove himself. This player is the epitome of La Masia, having worked his way up from FCB Escola at the age of 6 to playing for the first team. He has always demonstrated 100% loyalty in every stage of his career so far, having rejected Arsenal at 16 and saying that he didn't even want to go on loan because he wants to play for Barcelona so badly. He's always said that he's a 100% Cule through and through. On top of that, he's a player who's demonstrated great footballing intelligence and understanding of Barca as a club and as a footballing team.

If Gomes can be gifted with unwavering confidence/loyalty for an apparent lack of effort and talent, then surely Samper deserves a full season in the squad. The club has shown its willingness to de-prioritize La Masia in recent years with Thiago/Grimaldo/etc. being let go far too easily without the trust to continue forward with the team. If the club can't respect a player like Samper enough to reward his absolute loyalty with at least 1 full season in the first team, then the words 'Mes que un Club' mean nothing to them.

The club has effectively wasted two years of Samper's development by making him stay in Segunda B and loaning him out to such an unstable place known to play defensive football (even if Paco Jemez was tempting). He needs to be Busquets' backup next season, as he can still become a good player. Profile wise he's the obvious replacement if something happens to Busquets.

Yep. And this season, licho shipped him off for freaking Gomes. Samper couldn't be as bad as andre is, with the same minutes.

I'd argue that Samper would be several times the player he was now if given the minutes Gomes has gotten, and honestly he was much better in pre season and in games where he was called up than Gomes ever has been for us. If the roles were reversed and Gomes was the La Masia product and Samper was the 35m signing, Lucho would probably play him non-stop constantly, too.
