Sergi Samper

I'd argue that Samper would be several times the player he was now if given the minutes Gomes has gotten, and honestly he was much better in pre season and in games where he was called up than Gomes ever has been for us. If the roles were reversed and Gomes was the La Masia product and Samper was the 35m signing, Lucho would probably play him non-stop constantly, too.

Sadly we can say that about a few of our youngsters. When did we become like this?? Its so frustrating.

Last week, he was benched against Celta at home by his new coach Tony Adams.

I hope Samper won't ride the bench for the remaining part of this season.

I wouldn't be surprised if he is. A new manager coming in who is fighting relegation could look at a young kid who isn't even part of the club and only there to get experience and just wave that off.

Samper should have been recalled from loan a long time ago. He should have never been loaned out in the first place.

Man,this Granada team has 16 out of 25 players on their squads are loaned from other clubs,if Adams decided to bench players who aren't "even part of the club" he won't have enough players to make starting 11. Many of them are as old or younger than Samper.
And a coach who is fighting relegation will play the best players he has and try to win because there is no tomorrow, loan or not, young or old it won't matter.
The fact that Samper was many times wasn't favored to be a starter their is worrisome no matter how you go around it.
At this point if we bought a new CM & RB I might be against Samper return and will move S.Roberto to become Busquets back up.

Would nonetheless give Samper the pre-season.

This might be the first pre-season in some time where all of our players, Spanish NT, South Americans will be present.

Yes. I have also hoped that our fans have learned from the past. And if one player is neglected by 3-4-5 different coaches and clubs in a row, there is usually something horribly wrong with that player.

But ok, let's return him back to Barca.
I am quite sure that in 6 Months, we will write on this topic: oh, I understand now why he was neglected by 5 coaches in a row.

I know that in hard times for a club, like now, people become desperate, but Samper highly likely won't be a guy who will turn our fortunes around.

I don't think anybody ever predicted Samper to be the guy to turn things around for us. Even at the height of his hype I only ever saw people clamoring for him to get a position change so he might have a chance at getting a good amount of minutes elsewhere.

If Samper comes in and is able to fill the role of a decent backup he'll have met my expectations and he deserves such an opportunity, imo.

That's some genuine stupidity right there.

The depressing thing is that he was ready for promotion to the first team two years ago. Two absolutely horrible decisions (excluding signing Gomes which evidently pushed Samper on loan) which has led to two absolutely wasted years. Only solution is to bring him back behind Busquets and hope for the best. The fact that the club had more patience with Roberto from 2013 to 2015 even though we still had Xavi (+ Cesc for a year), than Samper from 2015 to 2017 when our midfield has been dead, is tragic.

Hmmm,I respect your opinion but there is really nothing to suggest that,he was one of the worse players in Baca B that got relegated that season, benched the month of April and initially it actually made Barca B midfield better. Samper was more ready for promotion 3 years ago than he was two years ago. The fact that he regressed in his 2nd season there means he wasn't by any mean ready to be in 1st team

I'd say that relegation year was more just a season of poor form than total regression. In the following season he was great for Barca B and was great for us when Lucho called him up. Loaning him out was never a good decision and in pre-season he was playing well enough to stay.

I really don't like how Samper has been treated. His passing game is still decent enough to at least be a backup to Busi or Raki. Can probably provide the same output as Gomes did this season.
