Sergio Agüero

He used to be a goalscorer, but those days are long gone. He's declined so badly and lost a lot of his pace. He's had a lot of injuries in the last 18 months.

Yeah, he'll be a free agent, but he's going to demand a big signing-on fee and big wages. It's a risky signing for an injury-prone 33-year-old player. There is no way we just offer him a 1-year deal... he'll be getting at least 2 or 3-year deal. Also, there's a reason why City is so quick to let him go. He's nothing more than a backup player now.

My point is that it's instantly seen only as a ploy to keep Messi and all of those other things are overlooked. Even the staunchest Anti-Messi members, (bbz is typing) has to admit there's more than one reason to sign a player of Aguero's caliber.

Laporta-esque. Brought in Larsson for free at same age in 2004.

Larsson was fit for 4 years before joing Barca, playing 234 matches for a club and NT matches (58,5 matches per season on average).
In the last season before Barca, Larsson played 67 matches (58 for the club and 9 for an NT team).
Aguero played 440 minutes this season which is barely 5 full matches.

In the last season before Barca, Larsson scored 41 club goals and 8 NT goals.
Aguero scored 3.

Current Aguero is closer to Boateng's Barca's level than to Larsson's.
The most liklely he will be at Arda's and Pjanic's level.

Still, Aguero coming here as a sub means he won't be as exposed to injuries. And he's not closer to KPB level.

If we forget everything else he still has zero on field chemistry with Messi (and I would imagine with Dembele, Griezmann, Trincao...).

If he came as sub and we got Haaland too then that would be more acceptable. Can’t see that happening though because of wages. Reality is probably Depay and Aguero on free ffs.

If he comes as a sub he should be OK. You got a veteran who knows how to find space in the box and can convert.

In theory, if you got Luis Suarez as a sub it is also a very good option. It wouldnt have worked if he had stayed based off of his pull and squad status though.

Aguero coming in is also a different proposition for that reason. He has a background with Messi but I don't think that's enough that he would start just because of it. Doesn't seem to have the personality like Suarez either.

The main thing is he would be new to the squad and Koeman seems to have stamped his authority. The players respect his hierarchy right now.

Would be content with signing him for 2 years at most at low wages as a bench option. But let's be real, if he comes, Aguero-Messi are in the starting line-up. We have just moved on from Suarez, it will be another step back.

if aguero is signed and stays fit we will win 1-2 ligas. in the meantime the youngsters develop, we get rid of the dross, maybe sign 1-2-3 very good players and the pandemic finishes. CL is not feasible for now, maybe only if we get lucky. so in 2 years we would be back challenging for real for the CL. aguero by then would be gone or on the bench.

seems that the choice right now is between aguero and depay.

STAY AWAY from him.

1) Finished at top level. Hasn't been a starter at City since 2019.
Doesn't have what we need atm and what the modern position requires from a striker in intensity, pressing, and constant movement.
He will be a fat Suarez 2.0

2) Not coming to be a sub. Irrespective of what we think here, he is coming to be a starter.

3) Messi-Aguero friendship is the cancerous mentality we are trying to move away from. A new strong member of the Amigos would sabotage Koeman's efforts.

4) Wages higher than what our current situation dictates.

Needless to say, Depay is >>>>>>> Aguero in all 4 factors listed above

Memphis Depay is not a better striker than Aguero.

Why?

Because Memphis IS NOT a striker.

He'll have the same issues Griezmann faces at Barca.

Memphis can/should only be signed if a World Class striker is signed along with him. Obviously not Aguero since he's finished, but the last thing we need is Koeman to let his bias ruin what he's building by inserting Memphis as his CF.

* And if Griezmann is sold

Aguero is past his best but needs a bit of respect on his name. In his prime a better footballer than Memphis Depay will ever dream of being.
