He's aging but if he were surrounded with equally talented players with a manager not employing gimp tactics then we wouldn't care about conceding a goal every match when scoring three to five ourselves.

We are partly (mainly?) to blame, but these LaLiga salary cap rules need to seriously be looked into when we have clubs renewing players just to positively effect the salary cap for the next season, and not on sporting merits.
