Plex is just an app for your own personal downloads, like Netflix for torrents. I have it on my computer and linked to my TV.

There's also IPTV for stuff like that that makes it far easier for non-tech types. I subscribe to some legal subscription services too, though, as they're more convenient.

I know a lot about physical media, I would say. I have been a casual fan of blu rays for years, then this January I really got into collecting. I have over 400 films now in total (adding up multi-film collections) and several TV shows. They often look better than streaming, and there are various pros and cons for streaming vs physical. I upgraded to a 4k stand-alone player earlier this year too. The picture and sound is even better than blu ray, but the price is significantly more usually as 4k hasn't seen the price decrease blu ray has. Makes sense, since 4k has only been available to the public since about 2016. But yeah, I like discs sometimes. I could save money by just streaming but it's good to indulge in things we love.
Oh, right. :D Gotta say I'm clueless even at the 'linked to your TV' stuff, even though I'd love to have that set up myself too, especially since I do have a smart TV and it's probably possible. And I do love to watch, TV series mostly, movies not so much (maybe older ones, up to 2010, after that the whole 'movie scene' is just a woke craphole anyway. 80s and 90s being the golden age for sure. Of actors and directors alike.

What little I do still watch, I find myself turning more and more towards the European and Asian production. Squid game season 2 finally after 3 years is coming at Christmas, also watching All Creatures Great and Small, a real gem of a British TV show. Beautiful scenery, stories and characters.

I guess it would be nice to do it in front of the TV, not sitting in front of a computer all the time.

It is possible mate, and not that hard either. You basically download the app on a smart TV, or fire stick, or Nvidia Shield. Then you link from the browser/plex app on your computer to the TV. It can be temperamental sometimes, and requires an internet connection to work, but still good.

Alternatively just hook up a hard drive to your TV with all your films and shows. Though you don't get all the metadata eg posters, thumbnails and info about the film etc.

I still haven't seen Squid Game, have to catch up. I have heard of ACGAS, never watched it though even though I am British myself.

If Plex sounds too annoying to set up, definitely buy an external hard drive and connect it to your TV. The added benefit of that too is the file is downloaded onto the drive so you don't need the internet on like you do with Plex watching on TV. It is definitely possible. Back in the day (say 2006-2010) I often sat in front of the computer for downloaded files and it was annoying.

If you want good TV show and film recs there are plenty in the threads on here. I too was more of a TV man for a long time but I have always loved films too and watch more films now. Sometimes a long TV show is too much of an investment. I think miniseries are a good compromise - longer than a film so offer more scope for narative and character development, but nothing something that goes on for 100 episodes.

Also, if you like Tv as you say you do, Apple TV has some of the best stuff right now. The 'woke' stuff doesn't bother me, but I don't think there's as much of that on there.
