What would have been "rating him"? Paying him 2m a year and a promise for the first team spot?

Doesn't even have to be 2. Nor does it have to be a first team spot. What you offered was laughable cultivation of a talented dude like he's a plant or something. Poor business negotiation.

He's 18, played for you (after an illegal transaction) for 4 years before he even reached puberty to decide on his own and you didn't rate him afterwards. Your loss.

Aha, what a cheap shot, so he joined Barca before because he didn't know better? I guess the same applies to every single Real Madrid youth player under the age of what 14?

Still out of order though, his 4 years at La Masia would have helped him immeasurably and of all the clubs he decides to go to guess where he chooses.

No? Keep the context in. You're being tightarses on youngsters that are clearly fitting the Barcelona profile while spending 9M on a guy who is a waste of money and time.

Just because Coutinho has turned out to be shit for us and doesn't deserve his wages doesn't mean we should pay every kid what he's asking for. For example I also don't like what we're paying to Dembele or will pay to De Jong (and I like them both as players). But in general we shouldn't compare proven players (both on club and NT level) with an unproven kid coming from J-League.

Not to mention giving Kubo what he wanted would set a bad example to other youngsters coming through La Masia when we would want to renew their contracts. It's bad enough our wage structure in the first team is broken, we shouldn't do the same for Barça B as well.

Of course he didn't know. He has absolutely no idea at 10. He only joined Barca because of Messi. You'd be deluded to think otherwise. What's he meant to love about Barcelona other than the players that he watches?

And then him and his family find out the move was illegal (not that it matters to him personally, but affects your view of the club you're supposed to build affection towards).

Absolutely it applies to every youngster. It's ridiculous to label them traitors on the grounds of them taking a better decision for themselves when they're finally able to make these calls about their own futures. Particularly when your club that you went and played for for 4 years says "ah, we only care so much, we don't rate you that much". Nothing stopped Barcelona from saying he would be in the B-team for one year and then start playing with the seniors. You think Madrid explicitly said he'd play along with Hazard next season? Lol, not even Kubo and his family are this gullible. They probably just said he wouldn't have to stay and play against 3rd league fodder. Why would he rot in Segunda B for 2-4 years like Ernesto GOATverde Tejedor suggests? He'd be 20-22 when he's promoted and he clearly wants to play in a top league after having played against seniors in his country for nearly 2 years now.

Not really, it doesn't have to break anything. Madrid pay handsome fees for select few big prospects who manage to get on the radar and be publicised as "joining the B-team" i.e. Casemiro, Odegaard, Vinicius, possibly Rodrygo. They're usually offered 2, 3 or 4x the wage the others in Castilla are. Doesn't affect anybody else's wage demands. If they're few and far between it doesn't matter. In fact, it sets a worse example that you DON'T fight on the market for their services.

It is important for some of you to understand that players want to be wanted and valued. You must not take them for granted even if they love Barca. There is no excuse. Madrid got a very good deal even if Kubo fails really bad that will not hurt Madrid one bit.

He joined because of Messi? You don't know that. Japan has been a Barca country for ages, one of the most famous characters in the Japanese comics book "Capitain Tsubasa" which started published in the 80's joined Barca and for many years we are the most popular European club in Japan. Even if he did join Barca because of Messi, so what?

You are quite pathetic to insinuate that his family somehow was pissed at us because he allegedly joined illegally. You don't know that for a fact, you are just speculating. Judging from the reaction of the American youth player who had to leave Barca when we were sanctioned several years ago, they were more mad at FIFA for not letting him to stay with us than getting upset with us for signing them "illegally".

Take a decision for himself? Their own futures? Yeah right. Like De Ligt, this kid cares about money and went to the highest bidder. It is about money, fame, status in addition to his career.

Anyways, hope that he flops big time for you.

Steadily improving every year with an excellent season at Vitesse while playing in a more sensible cultural setting. And he will likely play against top sides in Bundesliga next season while being only 21 by the end of it. If he keeps improving, he will be in Madrid in 2021. 4 years of steady development out of the limelight. Just the way you want the youngster (who isn't a Messi-Mbappe freak) to develop.

Madrid bought Ödegaard for only 2.80m and he is now valued at 15m according to transfermarket. Ajax offered 20m. He is still 20 and one of the best players in the Eredivisie last season.

Odegaard is doing very well at Eredivisie, Ajax wants to buy him but Real Madird refuses to sell. He is still young and he still might go back to them.
