All they probably promised is that he will not play for a B-team longer than 1 year. Something that Barca and other teams aren't willing to commit to, because they need time to cultivate the talent. And possibly because of EV. Who knows.
I strongly doubt they will have lied to him, his camp wouldn't have taken the offer on the grounds of "you will play at Bernabeu in 1 year" because it's obviously unrealistic. Unless they're huge gold diggers. If he's a smart guy, he will understand and will take the Odegaard route of playing around in Europe along with Asian compatriots. Bundesliga was once upon the time a place to go, but I don't know if they have a Japanese colony per se.

2. And if you take a look at what Zidane is doing instead of Valverde you can see (with the eye test) that he's contributing to 2.4 points per win while Valverde is only contributing 0.4 per 3 points. And let's add that Messi is 2.5 of those ALONE, meaning the rest of the team averages 0.1/3 points.
4. Getting playing time at Camp Nou's grass is also proven to make you a better footballer. Why? Let me explain with some simple stats.
The hybrid grass is like divided into 90% natural and 10% artificial, together that becomes 100%, no eye test can tell you otherwise. Plus the length of the grass is very important. Having too much height can be bad for your toes, because of this teams like Liverpool and Real Madrid have stronger toes leading to more titles because strong toes = more running + more power.

About Kubo. We should of agreed when we could at 1m/year. Good player with amazing marketing potential in a huge football economy, with a marketable back story.
If only for that, we should of brought him back. He is a tidy talent, needs to work a lot harder off the ball and defensively though.
But all in all we wouldnt lose money signing him (and Madrid won't even at 2m/yr).
