Going to win some and lose some when in for a player with Real.

Some of the reactions are over the top though and can barely remember anyone being desperate for his signing anyway.

Had the news today been Barca have signed him the meltdown would have been 'three left backs and blocking Cucu'.

Barca still have massive pull for players as much as any club going.

Don't care for Spanish players who prefer Real to Barcelona. No to mention we should concentrate more on young CB than LB. We have bigger priorities this summer than LB position.

1. RB
2. Midfielder
3. CB

Keep in mind we are Barca, even if the future doesn't always pan out our future will always look the most promising on a grand level, we as fans are just more conditioned to know better because, well, our future always looks more promising.

I don't know about that, I don't think we can take things for granted. I could be wrong but before the 21st century we were not on par with the likes of Real Madrid, Manchester United, Liverpool and the Milan clubs etc. and now we are one of the best clubs on the planet and look at what has happened to some of those old powerhouses. If we don't plan ahead and plan well, we might slip into that kind of state of oblivion and funk. We were blessed with Cruyff, Ronaldinho, Messi and the golden La Masia generation, that does not mean we will be always on top.

Our strategy last summer is signing young players it's a good strategy, it's just wasn't consistent as we hoped. We got Gem's like Umtiti and even a solid player like Digne and Paco is coming around despite the rough start. Gomes and Denis are rough signings for the most part as they didn't turn out the way we had hoped.

But this isn't all doom and gloom tbh, you win some you lose some when it comes to Real.

This, pretty much.

If you go back in this thread right before his signing I don't think anyone was particularly excited for bringing him in anyways.

Not too bothered by this. Barca and Madrid have a similar influence and when they compete for players they will get some, we will get some.

But I expect a summer with two top signings at least. If it doesn't happen, then we are officially and unequivocally ran by idiots.

It's long been confirmed we're ran by idiots. Since a long time ago. Not sure where you've been. If signings like Vermaelen, Douglas and Gomes don't make you think we're run by idiots, surely letting Grimaldo and Thiago go should do it, and if that doesn't, then surely refusing to sign or promote a RB would do it, and if that doesn't do it, then surely chasing Bellerin would do it, and if that doesn't do it, then surely...

So far, I can only say we are run by people who are passive. This season, however several big problems were exposed. Now there is a clear problem to be seen and this is the summer where they can react and make some right moves.

Being incompetent for me is when you know what the problem is and you know that you need to fix it, but you fail to do so because you are not able to take the best decisions. We already know our management was too passive and they just waited too long to make the right moves in due time. But now everybody knows we have issues at RB, on the bench (manager) and in midfield. If these issues are not fixed in the summer (knowing that they exist and they are causing the team to fall flat in key moments), then we can say we have incompetent people in charge without a doubt.

We usually have some sort of glaring problem that needs to be fixed and I wouldn't say us being passive is the cause. How long were we in desperate need of a RB? We spent so long chasing Thiago Silva and Marquinhos who were never going to leave PSG and when we couldn't get them we opted to sign nobody. That problem was eventually "Solved" by signing a Mathieu who was on the final legs of his career and a Vermaelen who could barely even walk. Not exactly revolutionary. Now even with Umtiti we're still in need of a new CB, what with Mathieu and Mascherano both getting too old to properly contribute anymore.

It was very very clear this past summer that we needed to sign a RB. After all, we didn't have a single one on the team. The only real option for that position was getting the Lucho treatment and aside from a gasgas here and there it was pretty clear Roberto not being a real RB was going to hurt us. The fact that the board not only wanted to not fire Lucho, but renew him, is just another sign of how idiotic they are. Hell, there's a solid chance we might end up with Unzue as our next manager. Revolutionary.

I get what you're saying about them possibly being idiots if they don't fix things, but I just don't know what you're talking about. Them being idiots should be common knowledge by now.

That will surely not happen.

I will wait until next season to fully convince myself. This is the first disappointing season in quite a while.

Such a shame...

Theo would've got a bigger chance to become a starter ahead of Alba rather than Marcelo (who is the best LB in the world without doubt).

Yeah. Theo would have at least been able to compete against Alba for the LB spot here.

At Madrid he has no chance against Marcelo. I'm guessing they will probably loan him out because he's going to get Coentrao minutes if he stays there, which would destroy his development. Marcelo is untouchable and will be for quite of a few more years.

At the end of the day, I'm fine with Alba/Digne. Theo would have been a bonus, but he isn't essential to us at this moment.
