Wijnaldum tag used to be " what does he do"

On Liverpool's forum.

He is very much a system player who might collapse like Coutinho after moving

Wijnaldum was good for Liverpool before he played this system and got 6 goals and 11 assists in 16/17 I believe.

Has also been good for Newcastle, Netherlands, PSV and Feyenoord who did not all play same system.

Coutinho is not a system player for Klopp either. Was Liverpool and Brazils player of year under other coaches.

Every player to an extent needs certain roles to get best out of them but that does not mean can only excel under one coach.

According to some reports Koeman wants to play 4-2-3-1. Thiago would be perfect for this formation.
----------Ter Stegen----------

Semedo- Pique - Lenglet- Alba

-------Thiago - De Jong-----

---Dembele----Messi-----Ansu

--------Griezmann/Depay------

That's defensively very bad lineup.
Dembele, Messi, Thiago not surrounded by workhorses.

This line-up will never work. Messi is not a CAM. That's like playing with 2 midfielders, we'll get slaughtered on every counter.

Would only work with a pair of very hard working and disciplined wingers, like Pedro, and Perisic, for example. But then it would be a 4-4-2, or a 4-4-1-1.

I don't really think 4-2-3-1 is very good for us.

I'd much rather stick to 4-3-3 if we sign Gini. 4-2-3-1 makes it a problem for Puig as well.

Thiago is very good defensively and has a high work rate.

He is good defensively in a hard working team like Bayern, surrounded by robots.

In a Spanish team, he doesn't look as good.
At Barca, he would probably look similar to Busi and Raki, surrounded by our grannies, turtles and teammates who don't press.

what about thiago-goretzka and muller/coutinho ??

Muller has the workrate of a midfielder. Runs like mad man. Messi is not even on the same planet with Muller's workrate and engine. Plus, Bayern dropped Coutinho and played a better more disciplined worker in Perisic, precisely for more midfield coverage. Plus they have even on the other flank a Pedro-like winger in Gnabry, better defensively and smarter than Dembele.

Bayern's 4-2-3-1, is more of a midfield 5 in defensive transition. Their defense transforms into a 4-5-1 off the ball very fast, because of the high workrate of players like Muller, Perisic and Gnabry.

We won't have anywhere near the same response and compactness with likes of Messi, Fati and Dembele.
