Tito is not to blame, you can't give minutes to a player just to prevent a clause being activated. If Thiago was good enough he would have played more, he will be a great player but he is not one yet. He should bide his time, Xavi is 33 so will not have long left at the top, Thiago is only 22 and will have plenty of time to be the main man in Barca's midfield. To leave because he does not want to fight for a place in the team is a cowards mentality, Xavi and Iniesta stayed even Eto'o after being told he was not wanted fought to stay. If Thiago leaves Barca it will be a mistake on his part.

1. lets wait to see if he does leave.

2. Yes, Tito could have played him more, but someone in charge at Barca should have sat down with Tito and asked him if he wanted Thiago to stay.

If Tito wants him to stay - play him more minutes.
If Tito wants him to leave - play him more minutes to cancel out the 'not played enough minutes' clause and maximise his transfer value to us.

IMO Tito DOES NOT have the authority at Barca to write off, say, 7 - 10 million+ Euros (being the difference between activated transfer clause and what Thiago might be worth on the open market)

Someone else at Barca is more culpable than Tito - he's only the manager, he isn't the money man.

So he's not to blame when he could have prevented that clause by playing him in one of the pointless games at the end of the season? Ok.
Not playing him for the full 90 minutes in all 4 of those games (let alone only starting him in one) was an absolutely retarded decision.

IMO a lot more of the fringe players should have been played in the last games, once the league was won.

Was it a case of Barca wanting the points total took priority over young players' development?

If he really didn't know about the clause, then someone like Zubi has more blame than Tito. I don't remember reading about this 18 mi before, and as Tito had too much on his plate(his disease), it's not far fetched he really didn't know. Of course this has nothing to do with him not trusting Thiago, or not giving him minutes. But you can't just put all the blame on Tito. If his buyout was 90mi, I doubt any team would be willing to pay.

A player should be given game time because it is earned not because of something in his contract. This is like a test for Thiago, he is free to leave if he wants to and if he does then that is not the kind of attitude that Barca want in a player, if he chooses to stay then he is willing to prove he is good enough to start the biggest games which is the correct attitude. Barca do not want a player to stay if they don't want to, so they are not forcing him to, it is up to him, Stay and fight or give up and leave. We will find out alot about Thiago in the next few weeks.

Only playing him in one of the 4 pointless games at the end of the season was still a dumb decision. Tito deserves a large portion of the blame for not playing Thiago enough. Even if Tito didn't know about the clause, Thiago was still underplayed.

He's our best prospect. So if playing him in one pointless game will make his buyout clause 90m instead of 18m, he should play in that game. End of story. Whether he "earned" it or not. No ifs, no buts. And guess what? He did earn it. Aside from a few games in which he made mistakes, he's done well this season.

This is exactly how I see it. If he's jumping ship now, he was always going to jump ship eventually so it's not worth freaking out about it.

Those few extra minutes here and there wouldn't change a thing. It would put the buy-out clause at 90M but Thiago would still be "sad" and his entourage would still spread transfer rumors like they've done two seasons ago.

Anyway, I still think it's all an act to have a better contract and that he has no intention of leaving.

If Thiago does leave... I would say good riddance, especially his agent. That son of a bitch has always been a pain-in-the-ass!! Yeah he is indeed a phenominal talent, it would be a shame to lose out on him. But with his father/agent aside him, his attitude would neven grow up to be that of a winner, what with his father earning him his playing-time through a clause in his contract instead of having him fight for the same.

If Thiago does decide to leave it would be a case of Adriano... A spoiled brat would never become a leader. It would be sad because not only does the club lose out on a great talent but also because one of our own youth products would be killing his own career ala Gio dos Santos

If Thiago leaves for only 18M and there is competition for his signature, then he'll probably get a signing on fee of 5-10M.
Barca can't insert a buyback clause, but Thiago can negotiate one into his new contract if he wants.
